📖 Commentary (Tafsir) of Verse 24 – Surah Al-Ma’idah

They said: "O Musa! Indeed we will never enter it as long as they dwell therein. Therefore you and your Lord go there and both [89] of you fight with them, while we will remain sitting [90].

✅ Misinterpretation Regarding Saints’ Power [89]

Present-day Wahabbis also argue that if the saints have power, then why send an army to fight the enemy? Instead, they say, just send the saint against them. This mistaken understanding is derived from this verse. However, this interpretation ignores the true meaning and the context of relying on Allah and taking necessary practical action.

✅ The Superior Commitment of the Prophet’s Companions [90]

From this verse, we learn that the companions of the Holy Prophet ﷺ are far superior to the companions of Hazrat Musa (on whom be peace). The companions of Musa showed reluctance and refused to fight, choosing to remain inactive, while the companions of the Holy Prophet ﷺ never abandoned him, regardless of how difficult the circumstances were. They did not respond with indifference or defiance but sacrificed everything they had. Just as the Holy Prophet ﷺ enjoys superiority over all Prophets, similarly, his companions are superior to the companions of other Prophets.
