Transliteration:( Wa izaa jaaa'ookum qaalooo aamannaa wa qad dakhaloo bilkufri wa hum qad kharajoo bih; wallaahu a'lamu bimaa kaanoo yaktumoon )
“And when they come to you [184], they say, ‘We believe.’ But they entered as disbelievers and left as disbelievers [185]. And Allah knows well what they are concealing [186].”
This verse was revealed about a group of Jews who approached the Holy Prophet ﷺ outwardly expressing belief, while inwardly they remained disbelievers. Their declaration of faith was superficial and insincere.
The verse teaches that an unfortunate person does not benefit from the company of the righteous if their heart is not sincere. Like a bucket full of impurity cannot purify water from a well, a hypocrite’s presence among believers does not transform their disbelief. Despite being in the company of the Prophet ﷺ, these people did not change inwardly.
Allah knows all that is hidden in the hearts. The verse reassures the Prophet ﷺ that Allah is fully aware of the secret intentions and plans of his enemies, highlighting His protection and support.
