Transliteration:( Qaala 'Eesab nu Maryamal laahumma Rabbanaaa anzil 'alainaa maaa'idatam minas samaaa'i takoonu lanaa 'eedal li awwalinaa wa aakhirinaa wa Aayatam minka warzuqnaa wa Anta khairur raaziqeen )
"Isa, son of Mariam, said: 'O Allah, our Lord! Send down to us a table spread with food from heaven, that it may be a festival for us, for the first and last of us [312], and a sign from You. And provide for us, for You are the Best of Providers [313].'"
This verse proves that commemorating specific blessed days—like the birth of a Prophet—is established from the practice of Prophets themselves. If the descending of food is worthy of a celebration, then the birth of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which brought eternal guidance, is even more deserving. Hence, celebrating Milad (Mawlid) is supported. Prophets have marked and declared specific days as significant. For Christians, this event of the heavenly table remains a commemorated day.
The term “Razzaq” (Sustainer) has three layers of meaning:
Giver of sustenance
Creator of sustenance
Supplier of sustenance
In this verse, the third meaning is emphasized—Allah causes sustenance to reach people through means like the rich, rulers, or donors. Still, Allah remains the ultimate source. The disciples didn’t ask themselves; they asked Isa (AS) to supplicate, showing that it is encouraged to ask the pious to pray on our behalf. A heartfelt du'a, when made through the right channel, is far more effective, just like a bullet needs a rifle to have its impact.
