Transliteration:( Afalaa yatooboona ilal laahi wa yastaghfiroonah; wallaahu Ghafoorur Raheem )
74. Then why do they not turn to Allah and seek His forgiveness? [221] And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
In this verse, turning (repentance) primarily means abandoning polytheism and false beliefs, and embracing the true Unity (Tawhid) of Allah Almighty. Seeking forgiveness involves sincerely repenting for previous sins and misbeliefs.
Repentance has multiple dimensions here:
It includes turning away from false doctrines like the Trinity.
It means expressing regret for past infidelity and sins.
It also implies a firm commitment to maintain belief in the Oneness of Allah in the future.
Hence, the verse is not redundant; it emphasizes both the act of repentance and the promise of Allah’s forgiveness and mercy for those who sincerely seek it.
