📖 Commentary of Surah As-Saffaat – Verse 100

"O my Lord, bestow upon me a righteous [101] son."

✅ [101] A Prayer for Righteous Offspring

Hazrat Ebrahim (peace be upon him) made this du’a after reaching Syria, at a time when he had already been blessed with great wealth and was over a hundred years old.

This shows that asking for a pious child is among the greatest desires of a believer and that receiving a righteous son is a tremendous bounty from Allah Almighty.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah As-Saffat verse 100 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Saffat ayat 99 which provides the complete commentary from verse 99 through 113.

(37:100) Lord, grant me a righteous son.”[56]

Ala-Maududi

(37:100) Lord, grant me a righteous son.”[56]

56 This prayer by itself shows that the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) at that time was childless. From the details given at other places in the Quran, it becomes clear that he had left his country with only one wife and one nephew (the Prophet Lot). Therefore, he naturally desired that Allah should bless him with a righteous child, who could be a source of comfort and consolation for him in a foreign land.

(100) My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."
