📖 Commentary of Surah As-Saffaat – Verse 53

"What! When we will be rotten and become dust and bones, shall we then get the reward and punishment [53]?"

✅ [53] Denial of Life After Death

This verse conveys the sarcastic disbelief of the rejecter who questions the possibility of resurrection after the body has decayed into dust and bones.

It reflects the common argument of disbelievers, denying that any reward or punishment could occur after such physical deterioration—mocking the concept of life after death and the justice of the Hereafter.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah As-Saffat verse 53 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Saffat ayat 50 which provides the complete commentary from verse 50 through 61.

(37:53) After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?’[31]

Ala-Maududi

(37:53) After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?’[31]

31. That is, were you also one of those credulous people who put their faith in an irrational and impossible thing like life-after-death.

(53) That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"
