📖 Commentary of Surah As-Saffaat – Verse 181

"And peace [177] be upon the Messengers (of Allah)."

✅ [177] The Status of the Messengers and Greetings Upon Them

This verse is a declaration of divine peace and blessings upon all the noble Prophets, affirming their lofty status and honour.

From this verse, two important rulings are derived:

  1. It is prescribed to say "Alaihis Salaam" (peace be upon him) after mentioning the names of Prophets, such as Musa (Alaihis Salaam). This phrase should not be used after the names of righteous individuals or martyrs like Imam Husain, as it is reserved specifically for Prophets.

  2. It is permissible to greet the Holy Prophet ﷺ with the words "Ya Nabi Salaam Alaika" or "Assalamu Alaika Ayyuhan Nabi", based on this verse, as it establishes the practice of sending peace upon the Prophets in a direct and respectful manner.
