Transliteration:( Falammaaa aslamaa wa tallahoo liljabeen )
"Then they both submitted to Allah's command and he laid [108] him (the son) down by his forehead."
This verse teaches us that the dream of a Prophet is equivalent to revelation, and through it, commands of Shariah may be overridden by Allah’s will.
Killing a child without any crime was forbidden by Shariah, yet this dream made the sacrifice of Hazrat Ismail (peace be upon him) obligatory upon Hazrat Ebrahim (peace be upon him).
It should be noted that this sacrifice was not a formal injunction of any religious law, but rather an obligation upon him due to the divinely inspired dream—just as Hazrat Yusuf (peace be upon him) was bound to prostrate in response to his own dream.
This reflects the unique nature of prophetic responsibility and how complete submission to Allah’s command defines true faith.
The tafsir of Surah As-Saffat verse 103 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Saffat ayat 99 which provides the complete commentary from verse 99 through 113.
(37:103) When both surrendered (to Allah’s command) and Abraham flung the son down on his forehead,[61]
61. That is, the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) did not make his son lie flat on his back but made him lie prostrate lest while slaughtering him the sight of his face should arouse compassion and love and make him shaky. Therefore, he wanted to use the knife from under the throat.
[1297]- To the command of Allāh.
