Transliteration:( Fatawallaw 'anhu mudbireen )
"But they turned [90] (away) from him."
Since Hazrat Ebrahim (On whom be peace) said, "I am going to be sick," they assumed he might be suffering from an infectious disease. Out of fear of contagion, they left him behind and proceeded to their festival without him.
This was part of his wise plan—to remain behind while they were absent, giving him an opportunity to confront their idols without resistance.
Religious note: The verse also subtly refers to the people’s superstitions and flawed beliefs. While astrology (the study of celestial movements) can be used scientifically, such as for calculating prayer times or fasting schedules, it is strictly forbidden to use it for predicting unseen events or to claim knowledge of the future. This is a serious deviation from Islamic belief in the unseen (Ghaib) being known only to Allah.

(37:90) So turning their backs, they went away from him.[50]
50. This sentence by itself shows the real state of the affairs. It appears that the people might be going to some fair of theirs. The family of the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) might have also asked him to accompany them. He might have excused himself, saying that he was indisposed, and therefore, could not go. Had it been something contrary to fact, the people of the house would have said: You look perfectly normal: you are making a false excuse. But when they accepted his excuse and left him behind, it clearly shows that the Prophet Abraham must at that time be suffering from cough and cold or some other such visible illness on account of which the people of the house agreed to leave him behind.
