فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمۡ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ

Transliteration:( Faraagha ilaaa aalihatihim faqaala alaa taakuloon )

91. Then he (Ebrahim) walked owards their idols secretly and said: Do you not eat (91") (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(91) Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?[1295] (Saheen International Translation)

📖 Commentary of Surah As-Saffaat – Verse 91

"Then he (Ebrahim) walked towards their idols secretly and said: Do you not eat [91]"

✅ [91] Ebrahim’s Confrontation with Idols

After they had departed for their funfair, Hazrat Ebrahim (peace be upon him) went to their temple. He saw that various types of food were placed as sacrificial offerings before going to the event.

They had intended to eat those items as sacred food. Seeing this, Hazrat Ebrahim (peace be upon him) addressed the idols with these words, mocking their lifelessness and inability to respond.

(37:91) Then he went quietly to the (temple of the deities) and said: “What is the matter with you, why do you not eat?[51]

Ala-Maududi

(37:91) Then he went quietly to the (temple of the deities) and said: “What is the matter with you, why do you not eat?[51]


51. This shows that there were different kinds of food placed before the idols in the temple.

(91) Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?[1295]

[1295]- Consume the offerings placed before them.
