Transliteration:( Maaa antum 'alaihi bi faaatineen )
"Cannot mislead [162] anyone against Him."
This verse means that neither your efforts nor those of idols can mislead anyone away from Allah except those who already have disbelief in their hearts.
The analogy given is that companionship is like a container for fire: only a container that already contains oil and light can burn brightly. Similarly, only a heart that has some element of disbelief or heedlessness can be led astray.
Those whose hearts are pure and firm in faith cannot be misled, no matter what external influences exist.
For example, Abu Jahl, despite close proximity to the Holy Prophet ﷺ, had no such ‘oil’ or light in his heart and thus never accepted faith.
This highlights that guidance comes from Allah, and misguidance only occurs when there is a predisposition towards it.
