📖 Commentary of Surah As-Saffaat – Verse 140

"When he ran away towards the laden [141] ship."

✅ [141] The Flight of Hazrat Yunus

While departing from his people without waiting for Allah’s command, Hazrat Yunus (peace be upon him) reached a river and boarded a laden ship to cross it.

When the ship reached the middle of the river, it came to a halt. The sailors declared that there must be a runaway slave onboard, due to whom the ship had stopped. They cast lots, and Hazrat Yunus’s name appeared.

Acknowledging this as a sign from Allah, he confessed, “I am the one who left without awaiting revelation.” He then dived into the river in submission, marking the start of his well-known trial within the belly of the fish. (Tafseer Roohul Mu‘ani)
