    📖 Commentary of Surah As-Saffaat – Verse 77

    "And We made his children the only survivors [77]"

    ✅ [77] The Lineage of Humanity After the Flood

    From this, we understand that none of the other Muslims who were aboard the Ark continued any progeny. All human lineage after the great flood stems solely from Prophet Nuh’s (عليه السلام) children.

    For this reason, he is known as “Adam the Second” (Adam II). The entire world population today traces back to his three sons:

    • Saam (Shem): Ancestors of the Arabs, Persians, and Romans

    • Haam (Ham): Ancestors of the Sudanese, Sindhis, Indians, and Abyssinians

    • Yaafus (Japheth): Ancestors of the Turks, Yajooj, and Majooj (Gog and Magog)

    According to Tafseer Roohul Mu’ani and Roohul Bayaan:

    • Yaafus had seven sons: Turk, Khazar, Saqlaah, Tarees, Munsalak, Kamari, and Seen

    • Haam had seven sons: Sindh, Hindh, Zanj, Qabat, Habash, Naub, and Kanaan

    • Saam had five sons: Iram, Arfakhshad, Alam, Yaqger, and Qarihk

    (37:77) and made his offspring the only ones to survive,[42]

    42. This can have two meanings.

    (1) That the progeny of the people who were opposing the Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) was made extinct and the Prophet Noah’s progeny alone was allowed to survive.

    (2) That the whole human race was made extinct, and only the Prophet Noah’s progeny was allowed to inhabit the earth after that. The commentators generally have adopted this second meaning, but the words of the Quran are not explicit in this regard and no one knows the reality except Allah.
