📖 Commentary of Surah As-Saffaat – Verse 130

"Peace [133] be upon Ilyas."

✅ [133] Honouring Hazrat Ilyas

This verse declares peace and honour upon Hazrat Ilyas (peace be upon him), acknowledging his high status among the chosen messengers of Allah.

The word "Ilyaseen" mentioned elsewhere in the Qur’an is considered one of the honorific titles for Hazrat Ilyas—just as "Sainaa" and "Sinin" are names for Mount Sinai. It is not the plural of Ilyas, as some may assume.

This is confirmed by the fact that verse 132 states:

“Verily, he is among Our most dignified fully believing devotees,”
where the singular pronoun is used, affirming the individual honour of Hazrat Ilyas.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah As-Saffat verse 130 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Saffat ayat 123 which provides the complete commentary from verse 123 through 132.

(37:130) Peace be upon Elias.[74]

Ala-Maududi

(37:130) Peace be upon Elias.[74]

74. The words in the original are: Salam-un ala El-ya-sin. Some commentators say that El-ya-sin is the other name of the Prophet Elias, just as Abraham is the other name of the Prophet Ibrahim; some others say that different versions of the Hebrew names were prevalent among the Arabs, e.g. one and the same angel was called Michal and Michail and Michain. The same has been the case with the name of the Prophet Elias also. In the Quran itself the same mountain has been called Toor Sina and Toor Sinin.

(130) "Peace upon Elias."[1301]

[1301]- Ilyāseen is said by some commentators to be a plural form, meaning "Elias and those who followed him."
