The summary/theme of the Surah Al-Hujurat :

The people who lower their voices before God's Messenger are those whose hearts Allah has tested for piety. They will be forgiven and rewarded. Those who call you from behind the chambers do not understand you.

Lesson learned from  Surah Al-Hujurat :

  1. Don’t precede the Prophet
  2. Don’t raise your voice in front of the Prophet Imām Mālik رحمه الله would say: ‘Whoever raises his voice whilst the aḥādīth of the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وسلم are being narrated, it is as if he has raised his voice in the presence of the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وسلم’
  3. All believers are brothers.
  4. If two parties of Muslims are quarrelling, try being the arbitrator and solve the conflict.
  5. Two groups shouldn’t mock each other; it is possible one is better in the sight of Allāh than the other.
  6. Don’t call each other names.
  7. Refrain from thinking bad of other people.
  8. Don’t spy on one another.
  9. Don’t backbite.
  10. We have all been created from one male & one female; our differences in appearance are merely so that we recognise one another.
  11. The best and most honourable in the sight of Allāh is the one with the most taqwā.

Transliteration:( Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo laa yaskhar qawmum min qawmin 'asaaa anyyakoonoo khairam minhum wa laa nisaaa'um min nisaaa'in 'Asaaa ay yakunna khairam minhunna wa laa talmizooo anfusakum wa laa tanaabazoo bil alqaab; bi'sal ismul fusooqu ba'dal eemaan; wa mal-lam yatub fa-ulaaa'ika humuz zaalimoon )

11.0 believers! Let not some men among you laugh (26) at other men. Perhaps they may be better (27) than them (who laugh). And the women must not laugh at other women. Perhaps they may be better (28) than them (women who are laughing). And neither should find (29) faults in one another, nor call one another by nicknames (30). What a bad thing it is, to be called disobedient (31) after believing. And those who do not repent, they are the unjust (32).

Transliteration:( Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanuj taniboo kaseeram minaz zanni inna ba'daz zanniismunw wa laa tajassasoo wa la yaghtab ba'dukum ba'daa; a yuhibbu ahadukum any yaakula lahma akheehi maitan fakarih tumooh; wattaqul laa; innal laaha tawwaabur Raheem )

12. O believers! Avoid most suspicions (33) Certainly some suspicions are sins (34). And do not search for faults (35) and do not backbite (36) one another. Would any one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Surely you would hate it (37). And fear Allah. Certainly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Transliteration:( Yaaa ayyuhan naasu innaa khalaqnaakum min zakarinw wa unsaa wa ja'alnaakum shu'oobanw wa qabaaa'ila lita'aarafoo inna akramakum 'indal laahi atqaakum innal laaha 'Aleemun khabeer )

13.0 Mankind! We created you from one male and one female. Then distributed you into nations and tribes (38) that you may know (39) one another. Indeed, the noblest among you in the Sight of Allah is he who is most God-fearing (40). Undoubtedly, Allah is All Knowing, Fully Aware.

Transliteration:( Qaalatil-A 'raabu aamannaa qul lam tu'minoo wa laakin qoolooo aslamnaa wa lamma yadkhulil eemaanu fee quloobikum wa in tutee'ul laaha wa Rasoolahoo laa yalitkum min a'maalikum shai'aa; innal laaha Ghafoorur Raheem )

14.The desert Arabs said: "We believed." Please declare (to them): "You do not believe (41)" You better say: "We submitted (42)," for belief has not yet entered (43) your hearts. However, if you obey (44) Allah and His Messenger, He will not diminish (45) anything of your (pious) deeds. Certainly, Allah is Most Forgiving,Most Merciful.

Transliteration:( Innamal muu'minoonal lazeena aamanoo billaahi wa Rasoolihee summa lam yartaaboo wa jaahadoo biamwaalihim wa anfusihim fee sabeelil laah; ulaaaika humus saadiqoon )

15.The believers are only those who believe (46) in Allah and His Messenger, and then have no doubt (47), and strive with their possessions and their lives in the way of Allah. They are the truthful (48) ones.

Transliteration:( Qul atu'allimoonal laaha bideenikum wallaahu ya'lamu maa fis samaawaati wa maa fil ard; wallaahu bikulli shai'in 'Aleem )

16.Please declare! "Do you teach Allah what is your religion (49)?" And Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And Allah knows everything.

Transliteration:( Yamunnoona 'alaika an aslamoo qul laa tamunnoo 'alaiya Islaamakum balillaahu yamunnu 'alaikum an hadaakum lil eemaani in kuntum saadiqeen )

17.(0 beloved Prophet) they count it as a favour to you that they have embraced Islam. Please declare: "Do not count your embracing Islam as a favour (50) to me. Rather, Allah has conferred a favour upon you to believe (51) (in Islam) if you are truthful.

Transliteration:( Innal laaha ya'lamu ghaibas samaawaati wal ard; wallaahu baseerum bimaa ta'maloon (section 2) )
