The summary/theme of the surah at-talaq:

You who divorce women should divorce them during their period of purity. Calculate their term, and be pious before God, your Lord, and do not evict them from their homes, nor shall they leave unless they have committed a proven adultery.

Lesson learned from  surah at-talaq:

  1. Every adult should familiarise him/herself with the laws and rulings of divorce.  
  2. Both the husband and wife going through divorce should ensure they follow the laws of Allāh, especially ‘iddah (the waiting period)  
  3. The men should ensure they treat the women with kindness during this period.  
  4. Whoever is conscious of Allāh, Allāh shall create exits for him from all difficulties.  
  5. Whoever places his trust fully in Allāh, Allāh shall suffice him.  
  6. Whoever is conscious of Allāh, Allāh shall make matters easy for him.  
  7. Allāh does not oblige any soul to do anything beyond its capability.  
  8. Allāh shall soon create ease after difficulty.  
  9. There were many nations that rebelled against the Commands of Allāh. Allāh took them to account severely, and punished them in ways unimagined by them.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ إِذَا طَلَّقۡتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ فَطَلِّقُوهُنَّ لِعِدَّتِهِنَّ وَأَحۡصُواْ ٱلۡعِدَّةَۖ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡۖ لَا تُخۡرِجُوهُنَّ مِنۢ بُيُوتِهِنَّ وَلَا يَخۡرُجۡنَ إِلَّآ أَن يَأۡتِينَ بِفَٰحِشَةٖ مُّبَيِّنَةٖۚ وَتِلۡكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِۚ وَمَن يَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ فَقَدۡ ظَلَمَ نَفۡسَهُۥۚ لَا تَدۡرِي لَعَلَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحۡدِثُ بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ أَمۡرٗا
 Transliteration:( Yaaa ayyuhan nabiyyu izaa tallaqtummun nisaaa'a fatalliqoohunna li'iddatihinna wa ahsul'iddata wattaqul laaha rabbakum; laa tukhri joohunna min bu-yootihinna wa laa yakhrujna illaaa any ya'teena bifaahishatim mubaiyinah; wa tilka hudoodul laah; wa many yata'adda hudoodal laahi faqad zalama nafsah; laa tadree la'allal laaha yuhdisu ba'dazaalika amraa )

1. O Prophet(1) (Communicator of the hidden news), when your people divorce your women, divorce them for their prescribed (2) time, and calculate the prescribed(3) period and fear( 4) Allah your Lord. Do not expel (5) them out of their houses, nor should they themselves leave (6), unless they commit an open indecency (7). These are the limits (8) of Allah. And whoever goes beyond the limits(8) of Allah, he indeed does injustice to his own soul. You do not know that Allah may after this send a new command (9).

فَإِذَا بَلَغۡنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمۡسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعۡرُوفٍ أَوۡ فَارِقُوهُنَّ بِمَعۡرُوفٖ وَأَشۡهِدُواْ ذَوَيۡ عَدۡلٖ مِّنكُمۡ وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلشَّهَٰدَةَ لِلَّهِۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ يُوعَظُ بِهِۦ مَن كَانَ يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِۚ وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مَخۡرَجٗا
 Transliteration:( Fa izaa balaghna ajalahunna fa amsikoohunna bima'roofin aw faariqoohunna bima'roofinw wa ashhidoo zawai 'adlim minkum wa aqeemush shahaadata lillaah; zaalikum yoo'azu bihee man kaana yu'minu billaahi wal yawmil aakhir; wa many yattaqil laaha yaj'al lahoo makhrajaa )

2. Then when they reach their prescribed term (IDDAT) keep them with kindness (10) or separate (11) from them with kindness, and call the witness, two (12) just persons from among you, and set up witness (13) for Allah. With this one is warned who believes (14) in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever fears (15) Allah, He will make a way for his deliverance (16).

وَيَرۡزُقۡهُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَحۡتَسِبُۚ وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسۡبُهُۥٓۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَٰلِغُ أَمۡرِهِۦۚ قَدۡ جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدۡرٗا
 Transliteration:( Wa yarzuqhu min haisu laa yahtasib; wa many yatawakkal 'alal laahi fahuwa hasbuh; innal laaha baalighu amrih; qad ja'alal laahu likulli shai'in qadraa )

3. And give him sustenance from where he cannot imagine (17). Whosoever places his trust (18) in Allah, He is sufficient for him. Undoubtedly, Allah attains His purpose. Allah indeed has appointed a measure (19) for everything.

وَٱلَّـٰٓـِٔي يَئِسۡنَ مِنَ ٱلۡمَحِيضِ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمۡ إِنِ ٱرۡتَبۡتُمۡ فَعِدَّتُهُنَّ ثَلَٰثَةُ أَشۡهُرٖ وَٱلَّـٰٓـِٔي لَمۡ يَحِضۡنَۚ وَأُوْلَٰتُ ٱلۡأَحۡمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَن يَضَعۡنَ حَمۡلَهُنَّۚ وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مِنۡ أَمۡرِهِۦ يُسۡرٗا
 Transliteration:( Wallaaa'ee ya'isna minal maheedi min nisaaa 'ikum inir tabtum fa'iddatuhunna salaasatu ashhurinw wallaaa'ee lam yahidn; wa ulaatul ahmaali ajaluhunna any yada'na hamlahun; wa many yattaqil laaha yaj'al lahoo min amrihee yusraa )

4. Those of your women who have no hope of (monthly) menstruation course, and in case you have a doubt (20), their prescribed period (for divorce) is three months, and for those too who have not had their courses (21). And for the pregnant women their prescribed (22) time is that they lay down their burden (23) (give birth.) And whosoever fears Allah, He will make easy for him his affairs (24),

 Transliteration:( Zaalika amrul laahi anzalahoo ilaikum; wa many yattaqil laaha yukaffir 'anhu saiyi aatihee wa yu'zim lahoo ajraa )

5.That is the Command of Allah, which He has revealed (25) to you, and whosoever fears Allah, He will remove from them evil and give increased reward (26),

أَسۡكِنُوهُنَّ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ سَكَنتُم مِّن وُجۡدِكُمۡ وَلَا تُضَآرُّوهُنَّ لِتُضَيِّقُواْ عَلَيۡهِنَّۚ وَإِن كُنَّ أُوْلَٰتِ حَمۡلٖ فَأَنفِقُواْ عَلَيۡهِنَّ حَتَّىٰ يَضَعۡنَ حَمۡلَهُنَّۚ فَإِنۡ أَرۡضَعۡنَ لَكُمۡ فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَأۡتَمِرُواْ بَيۡنَكُم بِمَعۡرُوفٖۖ وَإِن تَعَاسَرۡتُمۡ فَسَتُرۡضِعُ لَهُۥٓ أُخۡرَىٰ
 Transliteration:( Askinoohunna min haisu sakantum minw wujdikum wa laa tudaaarroohunna litudaiyiqoo ‘alaihinn; wa in kunna ulaati hamlin fa anfiqoo ‘alaihinna hattaa yada’na hamlahunn; fain arda’na lakum fa aatoo hunna ujoorahunn; wa’tamiroo bainakum bima’roofinw wa in ta’aasartum fasaturdi’u lahooo ukhraa )

6.Make the women to dwell,where you yourselves dwell according to your means (27), and do not harm them in order to pose hardship (28) to them. And if they are pregnant, give them maintenance, until they give birth (29). Then if they suckle (the child) for you give them their due (30) compensation, and enjoin (31) on one another (32) among you to be kind. And if you find it difficult, let another (woman) suckle (33) the child.

لِيُنفِقۡ ذُو سَعَةٖ مِّن سَعَتِهِۦۖ وَمَن قُدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقُهُۥ فَلۡيُنفِقۡ مِمَّآ ءَاتَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُۚ لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا مَآ ءَاتَىٰهَاۚ سَيَجۡعَلُ ٱللَّهُ بَعۡدَ عُسۡرٖ يُسۡرٗا
 Transliteration:( Liyunfiq zoo sa'atim min sa'atih; wa man qudira 'alaihi rizquhoo falyunfiq mimmaaa aataahul laah; laa yukalliful laahu nafsan illaa maaa aataahaa; sa yaj'alul laahu ba'da'usriny yusraa )

7.Let him who has abundance of means provide according to his means (34), and whoever has limited means of subsistence, let him provide out of that which Allah has bestowed (35) upon him. Allah does not lay on anyone a burden (36) except to which He has given that one. Allah brings about ease (37) after difficulty.

 Transliteration:( Wa ka ayyim min qaryatin 'atat 'an amri Rabbihaa wa Rusulihee fahaasabnaahaa hisaaban shadeedanw wa 'azzabnaahaa 'azaaban nukraa )

8. And how many a town rebelled against the Commandments of the Lord and His Messengers? So We called it to account severely (38) and punished it with punishment a severe.

9.So they tasted (39) the evil result of their conduct and the end of its affair was total loss (40).

10.Allah has prepared for them severe (41) punishment. So fear Allah, 0 men of understanding, who believe! Allah has indeed sent to you a reminder.
