Ghafir(Arabic: غافر, ghāfir; meaning: "The All-Forgiving", referring to God), also known as Al-Mu'min (Arabic: المؤمن, 'al-mu'min; meaning: The Believer), is the 40th chapter (sūrah).

The summary/theme of the Surah Ghafir: 

The disbelievers are warned that if they do not desist from wrangling against the Revelations of Allah, they will be doomed to the same fate as the nations of the past and will suffer even worse torment in the Hereafter. Their repentance will be too late by then.

Lesson learned from Surah Ghafir: 

  1. As well as being ‘Forgiver of Sin’, Allāh is also ‘Severe in Punishment’.  
  2. There are angels that constantly make du‘ā for those who repent and tread the Straight Path.  
  3. The people of Jahannam will own up to their disbelief and sins, and ask for emancipation from Jahannam, but it will be too late. 
  4. The horror of the Day of Judgement will be such that it would be as if the hearts of the people were stuck in their throats.  
  5. Allāh knows the deception of the eyes and what the chests conceal.  
  6. Be extremely careful of what jokes you say which are related to the DÄ«n in any way whatsoever.  
  7. The people of Jahannam will ask those whom they followed in the world to take away some of the punishment, but they will also be unable to help them, obviously.  
  8. They will then ask the gatekeeper of Jahannam to ask Allāh on their behalf for some reprieve in their punishment, but their plea will be rejected.  
  9. The blind and the sighted cannot be equal; neither can the one who has believed and done good, and the one who has done evil.  
  10. Allāh promises to accept the call of the one who calls onto Him, and warns those who are too arrogant to call unto Him with Jahannam; humiliated.  
  11. Only Allāh gives life and causes death.  
  12. There were Prophets sent by Allāh regarding whom we have not been informed in detail.  
  13. No prophet had the ability to show any sign of his prophethood except with permission from Allāh.  
  14. Throughout history, Allāh has destroyed nations much more powerful than us. What makes us think He is unable to destroy us also, due to our misdeeds?

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيۡلَ لِتَسۡكُنُواْ فِيهِ وَٱلنَّهَارَ مُبۡصِرًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَذُو فَضۡلٍ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَشۡكُرُونَ
 Transliteration:( Allaahul lazee ja'ala lakumul laila littaskunoo feehi wannahaara mubsiraa; innal laaha lazoo fadlin 'alan naasi wa laakinna aksaran naasi laa yashkuroon )

61.It is Allah Who has made for you night that you may get rest (154) in it.and He made the day, enabling you see (155), Surely, Allah is Bounteous to (156) mankind , but most of mankind is ungrateful (157).

ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡ خَٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤۡفَكُونَ
 Transliteration:( Zaalikumul laahu Rabbukum khaaliqu kulli shai'in; laaa ilaaha illaa Huwa fa annaa tu'fakoon )

62.Such is Allah, your Lord, the Creator (158) of everything. None is worthy of worship except He. Where are you turning (159) away?

 Transliteration:( Allaahul lazee ja'ala lakumul arda qaraaranw wassa maaa'a binaaa'anw wa sawwarakum fa ahsana suwarakum wa razaqakum minat taiyibaat; zaalikumul laahu Rabbukum fatabaarakal laahu Rabbul 'aalameen )

64.Allah is He Who made the earth for you a resting (161) place and the sky as the roof (162) and shaped you. then made your shapes perfect (163) and provided (164) you good things. such is Allah, your lord. So, blessed is Allah, the Lord all the worlds (165).

65.He is Ever Living (166), None is to be worshipped except Him. So, worship Him. being sincere (167) only to Him in the religion. All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds.

 Transliteration:( Qul innee nuheetu an a'budal lazeena tad'oona min doonil laahi lammaa jaaa'a niyal baiyinaatu mir Rabbee wa umirtu an uslima li Rabbil 'aalameen )

66. Please declare: "I have been forbidden (168) to worship those whom you worship besides (169) Allah, since clear (170) arguments have come to me from My Lord. And I have been commanded to submit (171) only to the Lord of the all the worlds.

هُوَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابٖ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطۡفَةٖ ثُمَّ مِنۡ عَلَقَةٖ ثُمَّ يُخۡرِجُكُمۡ طِفۡلٗا ثُمَّ لِتَبۡلُغُوٓاْ أَشُدَّكُمۡ ثُمَّ لِتَكُونُواْ شُيُوخٗاۚ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُتَوَفَّىٰ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَلِتَبۡلُغُوٓاْ أَجَلٗا مُّسَمّٗى وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ
 Transliteration:( Huwal lazee khalaqakum min turaabin summa min nutfatin summa min 'alaqatin summa yukhrijukum tiflan summa litablughooo ashuddakum summa litakoonoo shuyookhaa; wa minkum mai yutawaffaa min qablu wa litablughooo ajalam musam manw-wa la'allakum ta'qiloon )

67.It is He Who made you from dust. Then from a drop of semen (172), then from a blood clot (173), then brings you forth as an infant (174), then causes you to live so that you may attain your full strength (175), Then you become old (176), though some of you is lifted up (177) even before it and that you may reach an appointed term (178) and perhaps you may understand (179).

68.It is He Who gives life and causes death; and when He decrees a thing. He only says to it: "Be" and it comes into "Being"(180)
