Transliteration:( Wa mai yad'u ma'allaahi ilaahan aakhara laa burhaana lahoo bihee fa inna maa hisaabuhoo 'inda Rabbih; innahoo laa yuflihul kaafiroon )
"And whosoever worships any other god beside Allah, for whom he has no proof, then his account is with his Lord. Indeed, the infidels have no rescue."
Worship of any being besides Allah is false and prohibited.
Calling upon prophets or saints with the belief they are not gods is not shirk; rather, worshipping them as deities is the condemned act here.
The “proof” refers to divine evidence or prophetic authority.
No Prophet ever taught or justified polytheism.
Intellectual arguments offered by disbelievers hold no real legitimacy.
Reckoning for shirk will occur in the Hereafter, not fully in this world or grave.
Worldly hardship is not the true punishment; the real loss is in eternal judgment, where no one will be saved except by true faith.
117. And whoever invokes besides Allah, any other god, of whom he has no proof; then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely, disbelievers will not be successful. 118. And say : “My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of those who show mercy!”
(of whom he has no proof), meaning no evidence for what he says. Then Allah says:
(And whoever invokes, besides Allah, any other god, of whom he has no proof;) this is a conditional sentence, whose fulfilling clause is:
(then his reckoning is only with his Lord.) meaning, Allah will call him to account for that. Then Allah tells us:
(Surely, disbelievers will not be successful.) meaning, they will not be successful with Him on the Day of Resurrection; they will not prosper or be saved.
(And say: “My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy!”) Here Allah is teaching us to recite this supplication, for forgiveness, in a general sense, means wiping away sins and concealing them from people, and mercy means guiding a person and helping him to say and do good things.
(23:117) He who invokes any other god along with Allah ” one for whom he has no evidence”[104] his reckoning is with his Lord alone.[105] Indeed, these unbelievers shall not prosper.[106]
104. It may also be translated as: The one who invokes any other deity along with Allah, has nothing to support him in this act.
105. That is, he cannot escape accountability.
106. Again, the reference is to those who will attain the success and to those who will be deprived of it.
