Quran Quote  :

Quran-23:117 Surah Al-muminun English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Wa mai yad'u ma'allaahi ilaahan aakhara laa burhaana lahoo bihee fa inna maa hisaabuhoo 'inda Rabbih; innahoo laa yuflihul kaafiroon )

117.And whosoever worships any other god beside Allah (160), for whom he has no proof (161), then his account is with his Lord (162). Undoubtedly, the infidels have no rescue.

Surah Al-Muminun Ayat 117 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

160. This verse is a commentary of all those verses in which to call upon all those besides Allah Almighty has been prohibited. This means do not call those other than Allah, as Allah Almighty, and do not worship them. Otherwise. Allah Almighty Himself has called upon His servants and has given them permission to call upon these pious servants. How can mere calling be polytheism?

161. By 'proof here is meant the instruction of the Prophet. This means no Prophet had given false proof as the command for polytheism. Otherwise, the infidels were uttering much intellectual nonsense on polytheism, which they are presenting as proof.

162. This means the true punishment for polytheism would be received by the polytheists only after the Day of Judgement, after the reckoning, the difficulties of the world and the grave are not the actual punishment for polytheism. The severity of the cell is not part of the punishment, the period of jail only begins after the completion of the case.

Ibn-Kathir

117. And whoever invokes besides Allah, any other god, of whom he has no proof; then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely, disbelievers will not be successful. 118. And say : “My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of those who show mercy!”

Shirk is the Worst form of Wrong, its Practitioner shall never succeed. Allah threatens those who assocassociate others with Allah:

﴿لاَ بُرْهَانَ لَهُ﴾

(of whom he has no proof), meaning no evidence for what he says. Then Allah says:

(And whoever invokes, besides Allah, any other god, of whom he has no proof;) this is a conditional sentence, whose fulfilling clause is:

﴿فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُ عِندَ رَبِّهِ﴾

(then his reckoning is only with his Lord.) meaning, Allah will call him to account for that. Then Allah tells us:

﴿إِنَّهُ لاَ يُفْلِحُ الْكَـفِرُونَ﴾

(Surely, disbelievers will not be successful.) meaning, they will not be successful with Him on the Day of Resurrection; they will not prosper or be saved.

(And say: “My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy!”) Here Allah is teaching us to recite this supplication, for forgiveness, in a general sense, means wiping away sins and concealing them from people, and mercy means guiding a person and helping him to say and do good things.

(23:117) He who invokes any other god along with Allah ” one for whom he has no evidence”[104] his reckoning is with his Lord alone.[105] Indeed, these unbelievers shall not prosper.[106]

104. It may also be translated as: The one who invokes any other deity along with Allah, has nothing to support him in this act.

105. That is, he cannot escape accountability.

106. Again, the reference is to those who will attain the success and to those who will be deprived of it.
