Transliteration:( Wallazeena hum 'alaa Salawaatihim yuhaafizoon )
"And those who are watchful over their prayers [9]."
There are three levels of safeguarding Salaah:
Performing it regularly
Performing it punctually
Performing it properly, fulfilling all Wajibaat, Sunnats, and Mustahabbaat
Excellence lies not just in offering Salaah, but in establishing it as a pillar of the religion and preserving its quality. In the path of the Sufis, safeguarding Salaah also means avoiding those sins that nullify the reward of good deeds.
Just as earning wealth is praiseworthy, protecting and preserving it is even more vital. Likewise, may Allah Almighty grant us the ability to safeguard our Salaah, fasting, Hajj, and other deeds until death, so that these treasures reach the Hereafter intact.
The tafsir of Surah Al-Muminun verse 9 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Muminun ayat 1 which provides the complete commentary from verse 1 through 11.
(23:9) and who guard their Prayers.[9]
9. Salawat is plural of Salat. In (Surah Al-Muminun, ayat 2) the act of Salat itself was implied, but here the plural number implies the individual Prayers offered in their own times. They strictly guard their Prayers: they strictly adhere to the prescribed times of the Prayers: they perform them with due regard for their pre-requisites, conditions and articles with clean body and dress and necessary ablutions: they do not regard their Prayers as an unnecessary burden, which has to be cast off somehow: they do not recite mechanically but understand what they recite and are conscious that they are supplicating to their Lord like humble servants. 1
