Transliteration:( Wa Huwal lazeee ansha a-lakumus sam'a wal absaara wal af'idah; qaleelam maa tashkuroon )
"And it is He who made for you ears and eyes and a heart [113]. Very little you are grateful [114]."
Allah reminds us of His precious gifts—the ears, eyes, and heart—each created with the purpose of perceiving and responding to truth.
The ears to hear the truth,
The eyes to see the signs, and
The heart to comprehend and reflect.
When people fail to use these faculties to recognize divine guidance, it reflects a deep ungratefulness. Not appreciating or employing these gifts in the service of truth is a form of neglect and spiritual blindness.
Even when believers thank Allah, it remains insufficient in comparison to the worth of His blessings. The verse humbles us: even a lifetime of worship is not enough to properly thank Allah for just one blessing, such as a glass of water.
As for the disbelievers, they do not show true gratitude at all. Any outward form of thanks is empty because it lacks recognition of the Giver, which is essential for true shukr (gratitude).
The tafsir of Surah Al-Muminun verse 78 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Muminun ayat 76 which provides the complete commentary from verse 76 through 83.
(23:78) It is He Who has endowed you with the faculties of hearing and sight and has given you hearts (to think). Scarcely do you give thanks.[74]
74. The disbelievers have been told to consider the great blessings of eyes, ears, mind and heart and use them as human beings should, and show gratitude to the Creator by accepting His Message.
