Transliteration:( Illaa 'alaaa azwaajihim aw maa malakat aimaanuhum fa innahum ghairu maloomeen )
"But from their wives and from their lawful handmaids who are the property [6] of their hand, for (in their case) they are not to be blamed."
From this we understand that a believer is permitted to have conjugal relations with his legally wedded wife and maid-slave, both of whom are lawfully under his ownership. However, an independent woman is not allowed to engage in such relations with her male slave. This verse clarifies the bounds of permissible intimacy within the Islamic framework.
