📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Mu’minoon – Verse 96

"Repel the evil with that which is the best [131]; We know well what they attribute [132]."

✅ [131] Repelling Evil with the Highest Moral Standard

This command to the Prophet ﷺ—and by extension to his followers—is to respond to wrongdoing not with retaliation, but with superior character and divinely guided conduct.

The phrase "with that which is best" includes many layers of application:

  • Shirk is repelled with Tawheed (Oneness of Allah),

  • Sins with piety,

  • Cruelty with forgiveness,

  • Ignorance with knowledge,

  • Harshness with gentle da'wah,

  • And when needed, oppression through just jihad or legal means.

Even surgical intervention, though severe, is a form of healing—the same applies to corrective measures in religion.
Thus, this verse is comprehensive and enduring, not abrogated, and applicable in all contexts—from peace to conflict.

✅ [132] Allah is Fully Aware of Their Blasphemies

Allah reassures the Prophet ﷺ that He knows well what they attribute—whether they:

  • Assign partners or offspring to Him,

  • Or slander the Prophet ﷺ by calling him mad or a pretender.

This awareness is accompanied by an implied threat: Allah will surely hold them accountable and punish them accordingly.
