📖 Commentary of Surah Maryam – Verse 45

"O my father! I fear that the torment of the Most Affectionate may reach you [76], and then you become the companion of the devil (Shaitaan)."

✅ [76] Warning of Divine Punishment

  • Hazrat Ibrahim (علیہ السلام) gently warned his uncle that failing to seek protection through him could lead to the punishment of Allah Almighty.

  • From this we learn that seeking refuge through the Prophets is a means of salvation from divine wrath.

  • It also shows that soft and respectful speech is permissible even when addressing an infidel parent, especially in the hope of guiding them.

  • The duty of the believer is to offer sincere guidance, while not forming close internal alliances with disbelievers.

🔹 The verse combines affection, fear of punishment, and the invitation to truth — all characteristic of the prophetic method of dawah.
