Transliteration:( Wa naadainaahu min jaanibit Tooril aimani wa qarrabnaahu najiyyaa )
"And We called [89] him from the right side of the Mount (Tur) and drew him near for a confidential conversation [90]."
Mount Tur is a small hill located along the road between Egypt and Madyan, and it is here that Hazrat Musa (عليه السلام) was granted Prophethood. This moment occurred while he was traveling with his wife Bibi Safoorah from Madyan to Egypt.
The divine call he received was:
"O Musa, verily I am Allah."
The word "Aiman" refers either to:
The right side of Hazrat Musa (عليه السلام) as he approached from Egypt, or
A blessed direction, indicating sanctity and divine favor.
This moment marks a turning point in his spiritual journey, where divine communication was established directly.
Hazrat Musa (عليه السلام) was granted the immense honor of speaking directly to Allah, without the mediation of Hazrat Jibraeel (عليه السلام). Because of this, he was given the title Kaleemullah – the one who conversed with Allah.
It is important to note that:
All divine words spoken to Musa (عليه السلام) were later disclosed to the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
However, the private and secret conversation that occurred between Allah Almighty and the Holy Prophet ﷺ on the night of Mi’raaj has not been disclosed to anyone.
Instead, the Qur'an refers to it simply as:
"Now He revealed to His bondsman whatever He revealed" (Surah An-Najm, 53:10).
This indicates that while other Prophets are beloved and honored, the Holy Prophet ﷺ is the most intimate friend of Allah, receiving knowledge and closeness beyond any other creation.
The tafsir of Surah Maryam verse 52 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Maryam ayat 51 which provides the complete commentary from verse 51 through 53.
(19:52) We called out to him from the right side of the Mount,[31] and We drew him near to Us by communing to him in secret,[32]
31. “The right side of the Mount” means the eastern side of the mountain. As Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), on his way from Midian to Egypt, was passing from the southern side of Mountt Toor, the eastern side would lie on his right and the western on his left if he faced the mountain, otherwise a mountain by itself cannot have a right or a left side.
32. See (Surah An-Nisa, ayat 164) note 206.
