Transliteration:( Wa rafa'naahu makaanan 'aliyyaa )
"And We raised him to a lofty place [97]."
This verse refers to the unique honor bestowed upon Hazrat Idris (عليه السلام)—that Allah raised him to a high and exalted station.
According to the commentators:
After his death, Allah granted him life again and sent him into Paradise with his physical body.
This status is not metaphorical, but a real and physical elevation, affirming his spiritual rank and divine favor.
It is important to note that four Prophets are alive:
On Earth:
– Hazrat Khizr (عليه السلام)
– Hazrat Ilyas (عليه السلام)
In the Heavens:
– Hazrat Isa (عليه السلام)
In Paradise:
– Hazrat Idris (عليه السلام)
This highlights the exceptional nature of these Prophets, whose lives have been preserved by divine will for reasons known to Allah. The elevation of Hazrat Idris thus serves as both a sign of his nobility and a reminder of Allah’s power to grant honor beyond worldly limits.

(19:57) and We exalted him to a lofty position.[34]
34. The plain meaning is that God had favored Idris with a high rank, but according to the Israelite traditions, God took up Idris (Enoch) to heavens. The Bible says: And he was not; for God took him, but the Talmud has a long story to tell, which ends with the words: Enoch ascended to heaven in a whirlwind, with chariot and horses of fire.
