Transliteration:( Wa yazeedul laahul lazeenah tadaw hudaa; wal baaqiyaatus saalihaatu khairun 'inda Rabbika sawaabanw wa khairum maraddaa )

76. And those who got guidance, Allah will increase them in guidance (135). And the abiding good things are excellent with your Lord in respect of reward (136) and in respect of return (137).

Surah Maryam Ayat 76 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

135. Either in this world, by providing them with firmness of Guidance and death on faith. Or, on the Day of Judgement they would be blessed with positive knowledge from convincing knowledge, so that whatever they had understood from what they had heard, they would be able to witness it today.

136. Every good deed, which will not be ruined in this world, is included in the concept of "abiding good things" e.g. accepting faith with sincerity, sincere form of worship, and honesty in the execution of all affairs. All these are included in this verse. May Allah Almighty grant this to us.

137. Therefore, the wealth of the infidel is a burden of the Hereafter for him, while even the poverty of the believers in this world is a means of pleasure of the Hereafter for him. Thus, the poverty of the believers is better than the wealth of the infidel.

Ibn-Kathir

76. And Allah increases in guidance those who walk aright. And the righteous good deeds that last are better with your Lord for reward and better for resort.

Increasing Guidance of Those Who are guided

After Allah mentions the extended time and respite that is allowed to those who are in misguidance, increasing them in misguidance, He informs of the increase in guidance of those who are rightly guided. Similarly He says,

﴿وَإِذَا مَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ فَمِنْهُمْ مَّن يَقُولُ أَيُّكُمْ زَادَتْهُ هَـذِهِ إِيمَـناً﴾

(And whenever there comes down a Surah, some of them say: “Which of you has had his faith increased by it”) ﴿9:124﴾ And the following Ayah also shows this. Concerning Allah’s statement,

﴿وَالْبَـقِيَاتُ الصَّـلِحَاتُ﴾

(And the righteous good deeds that last) Its explanation has already preceded in Surat Al-Kahf, along with a lengthy discussion concerning it and the related Hadiths.

﴿خَيْرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا﴾

((they) are better with your Lord for reward.) meaning the recompense and reward.

﴿وَخَيْرٌ مَّرَدّاً﴾

(and better for resort.) meaning in the final outcome, the result for its doer.

(19:76) (On the contrary), Allah increases in guidance those who follow the Right Way.[46] Lasting acts of righteousness are better in the sight of your Lord as reward and conducive to a better end.

46. That is, On every critical occasion, Allah guides them to make right decisions and helps them to adopt the right way, and protects them from evil and wrong things; thus they go on making more and more progress on the right way.
