📖 Commentary of Surah Maryam – Verse 55

"And he bade [94] his family to pray and give Zakat, and was pleasing to his Lord [95]."

✅ [94] His Command Extended Beyond Immediate Family

Hazrat Ismail (عليه السلام) did not limit his guidance only to his close family, but extended it to his servants and his entire community. He actively enjoined upon them the establishment of Salah (prayer) and the giving of Zakat (charity)—the two fundamental pillars of worship and social responsibility.

This shows his deep concern for the spiritual development of society, not just his personal practice.

✅ [95] The Beloved Character of Prophetic Leadership

This verse teaches that ordering one's family to establish Salah is beloved to Allah and is part of the noble practice of the Prophets.

Even if a person is regular in his own prayers, if he fails to instill the same in his children, he risks divine displeasure. Therefore, true righteousness includes guiding one's household towards obedience to Allah.

Hazrat Ismail (عليه السلام) was described as pleasing to his Lord not just because of his own worship, but because he guided others toward righteousness, especially his own people.

This verse is a reminder and warningneglecting the spiritual upbringing of one’s family is not taken lightly by Allah Almighty.
