📖 Commentary of Surah Maryam – Verse 9

"He said, 'So it is,' [14] your Lord said, 'It is easy for Me, and indeed, I created you before, when you were nothing.' [15]" (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

✅ [14] A Son in Old Age Without Reversing Time

This means that you and your wife will remain in your current old age, and in this very condition, you will be granted a son.
Your youth will not be returned, yet Allah’s promise will still be fulfilled.

✅ [15] The Creator of Nothing Can Create Anything

The One who has the power to create from nothing certainly has the power to grant a child to the elderly.

There is nothing astonishing or difficult in this for Allah—He created Zakariya himself when he was nothing, and He can do so again with ease.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Maryam verse 9 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Maryam ayat 8 which provides the complete commentary from verse 8 through 9.

(19:9) He answered: “So shall it be.” Your Lord says: “It is easy for Me,” and then added: “For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing.”[6]

Ala-Maududi

(19:9) He answered: “So shall it be.” Your Lord says: “It is easy for Me,” and then added: “For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing.”[6]

6. This dialogue is meant to impress that Allah is able to do whatever He wills and can make an impotent man and a barren woman give birth to a child, and likewise a virgin can be made to conceive a child.

(9) [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.'"
