The summary/theme of the surah Al-Hashr:

It is through the example of the Battle of Banu Nadir that the believer demonstrates the victory of the believers. In the Holy Scriptures, Allah teaches us that He creates fear in the hearts of His enemies in order to allow the believers to overcome them and deliver the justice that they deserve for betraying the Prophet.

Lesson learned from surah Al-Hashr:

  1. Whoever shows hostility towards Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ is in for a severe punishment.
  2. Whatever the Messenger ﷺ gives and teaches you, take it happily. And whatever he refrains you from, refrain from it.
  3. Some qualities of the Anṣār:
  4. They prepared Al-Madīnah for the Muhājirūn
  5. They truly loved the Muhājirūn
  6. They felt no envy in the wealth that was granted to the Muhājirūn
  7. They gave preference to others over themselves even though they themselves were in poverty.
  8. Whoever is saved from the greed of his/her heart is indeed successful.
  9. Make a point of making this du‘ā:
  11. ‘Our Rabb! Forgive us and those of our brothers who preceded us in faith, and do not place in ourhearts any rancour against those who believe; Surely, Our Lord, you are Very-Kind, Very-Merciful.’ (59:10)
  12. The hypocrites would continuously make false promises, which Allāh exposed.
  13. The hypocrites would only fight if they knew they had more of a chance of surviving. Their relations between themselves were extremely fragile, and disputes rife. On the outset, it looked as if they were a united bunch, yet their hearts were divided.
  14. One way of achieving taqwā is to continuously ponder over what deeds you have sent forth for the Hereafter.
  15. If you forget Allāh, He will cause you to forget yourself.
  16. Allāh has many beautiful names; we should learn them and call Him by them.

Transliteration:( Alam tara ilal lazeena naafaqoo yaqooloona li ikhwaanihimul lazeena kafaroo min ahlil kitaabi la'in ukhrijtum lanakhrujanna ma'akum wa laa nutee'u feekum ahadan abadanw-wa in qootiltum lanansuran nakum wallaahu yashhadu innahum lakaaziboon )

11. Have you not seen those who are hypocrites? They say to their brothers who disbelieve, from among the followers (37) of the Book: "If you are driven (38) out, we shall certainly go out with you, and we will never obey (39) anyone against you. And if you are fought against, we will certainly help you." But Allah bears witness that they are indeed liars (40).

Transliteration:( La'in ukhrijoo laa yakhrujoona ma'ahum wa la'in qootiloo laa yansuroonahum wa la'in nasaroohum la yuwallunnal adbaara summa laa yunsaroon )

12. Certainly, if they are turned out, they will not go out with them, and if they are fought against, they will not help (41) them and turn (42) their backs on them. But then they shall not be helpers.

Transliteration:( La antum ashaddu rahbatan fee sudoorihim minal laah; zaalika bi annahum qawmul laa yafqahoon )

13. Certainly, they have greater fear (43) of you in their hearts than of Allah. That is because they are a people devoid of reason (44).

Transliteration:( Laa yuqaatiloonakum jamee'an illaa fee quram muhas sanatin aw minw waraaa'i judur; baasuhum bainahum shadeed; tahsabuhum jamee'anw-wa quloobuhum shatta; zaalika biannahum qawmul laa ya'qiloon )

14. They will not even fight (45) against you together, save in fortified (46) towns or from behind walls. Their fighting between themselves is severe (47). You may think of them as one body, but their hearts are disunited (48). That is because they are a people who have no sense.

Transliteration:( Kamasalil lazeena min qablihim qareeban zaaqoo wabaala amrihim wa lahum 'azaabun aleem )

15. They are like those who were just before them. They tasted the evil result of their doings. And they shall have a painful (49) punishment.

Transliteration:( Kamasalish shaitaani izqaala lil insaanik fur falammaa kafara qaala innee bareee'um minka inneee akhaaful laaha rabbal 'aalameen )

16. Like Shaitaan, when he says to a person to disbelieve (50). But when he disbelieves, he says: "I have certainly, nothing to do with you. Surely, I fear Allah, the Lord of the entire universe (51),"

Transliteration:( Fakaana 'aaqibatahumaaa annahumaa fin naari khaalidaini feehaa; wa zaalika jazaaa'uz zaalimeen )

17. Therefore, the end of both of them will be that both will be in the fire. This is the punishment for transgression (52).

Transliteration:( Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanut taqul-laaha; waltanzur nafsum maa qaddamat lighadiw wattaqual laah; innal laaha khabeerum bimaa ta'maloon )

18. O you who believe! Fear Allah, and let every soul look forward as to what it has sent on for tomorrow (53). And fear Allah. Surely, Allah is Aware of what you do (54).

Transliteration:( Wa laa takoonoo kallazeena nasul laaha fa ansaahum anfusahum; ulaaa'ika humul faasiqoon )

19. And be not like those who forget (55) Allah, so He puts them in distress of forgetting their own selves( 56). They are the transgressors (57),

Transliteration:( Laa yastaweee as-haabun naari wa ashaabul jannah; as haabul jannati humul faaa'izoon )

20. The inmates of the fire and the dwellers of Paradise are not equal (58). The dwellers of Paradise are those who have attained their goal (59).
