📖 Commentary of Verse 22 (Surah Al-Insan)

"Verily, this is a reward[33] for you and your labor shall be appreciated[34]."

[33] The Reward for Obedience

  • This verse reassures the righteous inhabitants of Paradise that all the blessings and bounties they receive are the result of their obedience and effort in the worldly life.

  • Their efforts—through acts of worship, devotion, and righteousness—are recognized and rewarded by Allah.

  • While some individuals may enter Paradise through Divine generosity (such as the children of the believers or the intercession of the pious), those who earn Paradise through their own actions will receive a special reward.

[34] The Appreciation of Labor and the Vision of Allah

  • The verse also emphasizes that the reward of Paradise is not only in the tangible blessings but also in the Divine Vision and conversation that Allah grants to the inhabitants of Paradise.

  • This vision of Allah is a special and unparalleled gift, not earned by mere good deeds, but granted as a result of extreme devotion and love for Allah.

  • The Divine Vision is a Grace from Allah, beyond any reward for good deeds, and represents the ultimate form of bliss and fulfillment in the afterlife.

The tafsir of Surah Al-Insan verse 22 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Insan ayat 13 which provides the complete commentary from verse 13 through 22.

(76:22) Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated.[26]

Ala-Maududi

(76:22) Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated.[26]

26. In the original, kana sayu kum mashkura: “your endeavors have been accepted and recognized.” Saiiimplies the entire lifework that a person accomplished in the world, the works and objectives to which he applied his energies and abilities; and its being mashkur means that Allah has appreciated it. Shukr when expressed by the servant to God implies his gratefulness to Him for His blessings, and when it is expressed by God for the servant, it means that He has appreciated his services. It is indeed the kindness of the Master that He should appreciate the endeavors of the servant when the servant has only carried out his duties according to the Master’s will.

(22) [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated."
