Transliteration:( Wa kaana lahoo samarun faqaala lisaahibihee wa huwa yuhaawiruhoo ana aksaru minka maalanw wa a'azzu nafaraa )
"And he had fruits [82]. He said to his companion, while he was arguing with him, “I have greater wealth than you and am more powerful [83] in terms of followers [84]."**
This means that in addition to his two lush gardens, the man also owned other forms of wealth—such as gold, silver, or additional fruit orchards. His material riches were vast and diversified, indicating his high worldly status.
This verse depicts a debate between the wealthy disbeliever and his believing neighbor. In his arrogance, the disbeliever boasted of his superiority, trying to belittle the believer through his material comparisons. This prideful speech became a sinful act, as it emanated from arrogance and mockery.
From this, we learn that boasting and arrogance are the traits of disbelievers, while gratitude and humility are the hallmarks of the believers. The believer recognizes that all blessings are from Allah, while the disbeliever flaunts them as personal achievements.
As Allah Almighty says:
“And publicize well the favours of your Lord” (Surah Ad-Duhaa 93:11).
Thus, looking down on a believer is also a characteristic of disbelief.
