Transliteration:( Wa wudi'al kitaabu fataral mujrimeena mushfiqeena mimmaa feehi wa yaqooloona yaa wailatanaa maa lihaazal kitaabi laa yughaadiru saghee ratanw wa laa kabeeratan illaaa ahsaahaa; wa wajadoo maa 'amiloo haadiraa; wa laa yazlimu Rabbuka ahadaa (Section 6) )

49. And the book will be set down [113]. You will see the wrongdoers fearful of what is in it, and they will say, "Woe to us! What is with this book that leaves nothing small or large but has recorded it all [114]?!" And they will find everything they did present [115]. Your Lord does not do injustice to anyone [116]. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(49) And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one. 📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Kahf – Verse 49

"And the book will be set down [113]. You will see the wrongdoers fearful of what is in it, and they will say, 'Woe to us! What is with this book that leaves nothing small or large but has recorded it all [114]?!' And they will find everything they did present [115]. Your Lord does not do injustice to anyone [116]."

✅ [113] The Book of Deeds

Everyone's book of deeds will be placed before them — the believers will receive theirs in their right hand, and the infidels in their left.

✅ [114] Recording of Deeds

Three points arise from this:

  1. Every sin of the infidels, whether major or minor, is recorded, including their disbelief.

  2. The good deeds of infidels are not recorded because true good deeds require correct belief, which they rejected, or their worldly comforts were already the reward of their deeds.

  3. Every infidel is obligated by Allah to do good deeds and avoid sins, including accepting faith and performing Salah; disobedience brings punishment. Minor sins include acts like kissing a strange woman, while major sins include adultery.

✅ [115] Presentation of Deeds

No one will be illiterate on the Day of Judgement — all will be able to read their book of deeds, written in Arabic. Even in the grave, tongues become Arabic to answer questions.
“Present” means the written record of deeds will be evident; evil deeds may appear in frightening forms.

✅ [116] Divine Justice

Allah’s justice ensures no one is wronged — no uncommitted sins will be recorded, and no one will receive more punishment than deserved. Believers receive Allah’s grace and bounty. Bounty is not contrary to justice, but injustice is.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Kahf verse 49 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Kahf ayat 47 which provides the complete commentary from verse 47 through 49.

(18:49) And then the Record of their deeds shall be placed before them and you will see the guilty full of fear for what it contains, and will say: “Woe to us! What a Record this is! It leaves nothing, big or small, but encompasses it.” They will find their deeds confronting them. Your Lord wrongs no one.[46]

Ala-Maududi

(18:49) And then the Record of their deeds shall be placed before them and you will see the guilty full of fear for what it contains, and will say: “Woe to us! What a Record this is! It leaves nothing, big or small, but encompasses it.” They will find their deeds confronting them. Your Lord wrongs no one.[46]

46. “And your Lord does not do injustice to anyone”: Neither will an evil deed, not committed by someone, have been recorded in his conduct register, nor shall anyone be punished more than one deserved for his crime, nor shall an innocent person be punished at all.
