Transliteration:( Fa akalaa minhaa fabadat lahumaa saw aatuhumaa wa tafiqaa yakhsifaani 'alaihimaa minw waraqil jannah; wa 'asaaa Aadamu Rabbahoo faghawaa )
Then they both ate thereof, now their things of shame became apparent [169] to them, and they began to stick the [170] leaves of the Garden over themselves. And Adam slipped the commandment of his Lord. Then what he had desired did not get the way to it. (171)
From the dual form of the pronominal suffix we learn that Hazrat Adam (On whom be peace) and Hazrat Hawa (On whom be peace) were concealed in Paradise. Or, they were not revealed to the devil but unto themselves only because the dress of Paradise was taken off from them. We further learn that the husband and wife should not appear in nudity in front of each other, as this is a shameful act.
The leaves of figs. This tells us that modesty, chastity and concealing the private parts is the practice of the Prophets.
This means the purpose for which the fruit was eaten was not achieved, i.e. everlasting life. It should be remembered that the errors of the Prophets do not mean acts of sin, but they are mistakes just as having of hand, etc. for Allah Almighty do not mean physical hands and feet.
The meaning of some things are necessary due to the object to which they are linked. Sometimes one word has different meanings, depending on what they are linked with. The Urdu word "BAITH" means to sit, but when it is used:
with the eye, it means to be blind
with the throat, it means to be hoarse
with the ear, it means to be deaf
with the heart, it means to have one's heart in one's mouth
So, the meaning of the word varies in each context.

(20:121) Then the two of them ate the fruit of that tree and their shameful parts became revealed to each other, and they began to cover themselves with the leaves from the Garden.[101] Thus Adam disobeyed his Lord and strayed into error.[102]
101. No sooner did they disobey the command, they were deprived of all the facilities, but naturally the immediate effect of this as felt by them was that they were stripped of their garments. Then gradually, as they felt thirsty, hungry etc. they realized that they had been deprived of all the facilities that they enjoyed in the Garden.
102. It is worth while to understand the nature of human weakness which helped Satan to seduce Adam and Eve. They succumbed to seduction because Satan tempted them in the garb of a true friend and well-wisher even though they knew well that he was their enemy. For, Adam had a direct knowledge of the envy and enmity of Satan, who had challenged to seduce and ruin him in his very presence. Allah had also warned them to guard against the envy of and the temptations by Satan and had informed them of the consequences of disobedience. Above all, Adam and Eve still believed in Allah and never thought of intentional disobedience. But in spite of this, when Satan tempted them in the garb of a friend, they disobeyed their Lord: they forgot the command for the time being for lack of fineness of purpose. And since then this human weakness has persisted in their descendants during all ages.
