Transliteration:( Afalaa yarawna allaa yarji'u ilaihim qawlanw wa laa yamliku lahum darranw wa laa naf'aa (section 4) )
Do they then not see that it does not return reply to them of any word and nor possesses any power to hurt or profit them? [126]
Allah highlights the absurdity of idol worship by pointing out that the calf:
Could not respond to its worshippers,
Had no power to benefit or harm them.
This verse refutes the false notion of divinity based on material value.
While gold may offer worldly benefit, that does not make it a god.
Divinity is not based on material usefulness, but on the power to give benefit or harm independently, which the calf—a lifeless statue—clearly lacked.
Thus, the Qur'an clarifies that the ability to benefit is not the basis of being divine, and the golden calf was nothing but a worthless illusion.
