Transliteration:( Innas Saa'ata aatiyatun akaadu ukhfeehaa litujzaa kullu nafsin bimaa tas'aa )
"Indeed, the Hour is to come. It was near that I should conceal [16] it from all, that every soul may be recompensed for his endeavour."
Allah did not completely conceal the Day of Judgment; rather, He informed humanity of its arrival and major signs through His prophets so that people might prepare for it.
The exact date and year were not disclosed, but the Holy Prophet ﷺ was informed of the day—he stated that Qiyamah will occur on a Friday, and according to one narration, on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura).
Though the year was not revealed, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“I and the Day of Judgment are as close as these two fingers,”
illustrating their closeness by joining his index and middle fingers.
Just as one neighbour knows the other, he indicated that he had full knowledge of its approach, but refrained from specifying it—preserving the divine wisdom in keeping its exact moment hidden.
The tafsir of Surah Ta-Ha verse 15 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Taha ayat 11 which provides the complete commentary from verse 11 through 16.
(20:15) The Hour of Resurrection is coming. I have willed to keep the time of its coming hidden so that everyone may be recompensed in accordance with his effort.[10]
10. After Tauhid, the second thing that was revealed to all the Prophets was the reality of the Hereafter, and they were appointed to impart its knowledge to their peoples. Here its object has also been stated. The Hour of Resurrection is destined to come so that everyone should get the recompense in the Hereafter of what he did in this world, and that Hour has been kept secret to fulfill the requirement of the trial. For the one who believes in the Hereafter will always be on his guard against any deviation from the right way, and the one who does not believe in the coming of that Hour will remain engaged in other things, for he will think that he did not see any sign of the coming of the Hour.
[833]- Meaning that Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) keeps knowledge of the Hour hidden from everyone except Himself.
