The summary/theme of the surah an-nahl:

It presents very persuasive proofs of Tawhid and refutation of shirk based on clear signs in the universe and in man's own creation. It answers the objections of the disbelievers, refutes their arguments, and removes their doubts. It warns against the consequences of persisting in false ways.

Lesson learned from surah an-nahl:

  1. There are innumerable blessings and signs of Allāh pointing to His existence and supremacy.
  2. If you try to count the favours of Allāh, you will be unable to do so.
  3. For those who do good, they will witness the fruits of that good in this very world, as well as in the Hereafter.[1]
  4. The people of Jannah will get whatever they desire.
  5. When Allāh wants something to happen, He merely says ‘Be’ and it happens.
  6. Ask the people who know if you yourself don’t.
  7. If Allāh was to punish the people immediately for every sin they committed, there would be no living thing left on earth.[2]
  8. Allāh orders all things good, and forbids all evil.
  9. Whatever is with us in the world will cease to exist; whatever is with Allāh [reward] will remain forever.
  10. Whoever does good in this world, be it male or female, will be granted a good life in this world together with the reward in the Hereafter.
  11. When you recite the Qur’ān, you should start with seeking refuge in Allāh from Shayṭān.
  12. Ingratitude leads to great depravation in this world, as well as the Hereafter.
  13. Da‘wah (calling towards Allāh) should be done with wisdom and good admonition.

Transliteration:( Wallaahu faddala ba'dakum 'alaa ba'din fir rizq; famal lazeena fuddiloo biraaaddee rizqihim 'alaa maa malakat aimaanuhum fahum feehi sawaaa'; afabini'matil laahi yajhadoon )

71. And Allah has preferred (150) one over the other in provision, then those who have been preferred will not divert their means of provision to their handmaid slaves, so they all should become equal (151) in it. Do they deny the blessings of Allah? (152).

Transliteration:( Wallaahu ja'ala lakum min anfusikum azwaajanw wa ja'ala lakum min azwaajikum baneena wa hafadatanw wa razaqakum minat taiyibaat; afabil baatili yu'minoona wa bini'matil laahi hum yakkfuroon )

72. And Allah has made (153) for you women from amongst yourselves and created for you from your women, sons (154), and grand sons and provided you with clean things (155) Do they then believe in falsehood and deny the favour of Allah? (156)

Transliteration:( Wa ya'budoona min doonil laahi maa laa yamliku lahum rizqam minas samaawaati wal ardi shai'anw wa laa yastatee'oon )

73. And they worship from besides Allah such that We have no power to give provision from the heavens and earth, nor can they do anything (157),

Transliteration:( Falaa tadriboo lillaahil amsaal; innal laaha ya'lamu wa antum laa ta'lamoon )

74. Then set no similitudes (158) for Allah. No doubt, Allah knows and you do not know.

Transliteration:( Darabal laahu masalan 'abdam mammlookal laa yaqdiru 'alaa shai'inw wa marrazaqnaahu mminnaa rizqan hasanan fahuwa yunfiqu minhu sirranw wa jahra; hal yasta-woon; alhamdu lillaah; bal aksaruhum laa ya'lamoon )

75. Allah explained an example (159), there is a slave who has a master; he does not have power upon anything, and one whom We have provided from ourselves with good provision, then he spends out of it secretly and openly, are they equal (160)? All Praise is to Allah, but most of them do not know (161)?

Transliteration:( Wa darabal laahu masalar rajulaini ahaduhumaaa abkamu laa yaqdiru 'alaa shai'inw wa huwa kallun 'alaa mawlaahu ainamaa yuwajjihhu laa yaati bikhairin hal yastawee huwa wa many-yaamuru bil'adli wa huwa 'alaa Siraatim Mustaqeem (section 10) )

76. And Allah explained an example, there are two men, one dumb, who can do nothing (162) and is a burden (163) over his master, wherever he sends him, he brings him no good. Will he be equal to the one who orders justice (164) and he, himself is on the straight path?

Transliteration:( Wa lillaahi ghaibus samaawaati wal ard; wa maaa amrus Saa'ati illaa kalamhil basari aw huwa aqrab; innal laaha 'alaaa kulli shai'in Qadeer )

77. And for Allah (165) are the secrets of the heavens and the earth (166). And the matter of the Hour is not but like the twinkling of the eye or even closer (167). Surely Allah has power over everything (168).

Transliteration:( Wallaahu akhrajakum mim butooni ummahaatikum laa ta'lamoona shai'anw wa ja'ala lakumus sam'a wal absaara wal af'idata la'allakum tashkuroon )

78. And Allah has created you from the wombs of your mothers while you knew nothing (169), and gave you ears and eyes and a heart (170) you may be thankful (171) so that

Transliteration:( Alam yaraw ilat tairi musakhkharaatin fee jawwis samaaa'i maa yumsikuhunna illal laah; inna fee zaalika la Aayaatil liqawminy yu'minoon )

79. Have you not seen the birds tied to order on the firmament of heaven? None holds (172) them except Allah. Indeed, there are signs in it for those who believe.

Transliteration:( Wallaahu ja'ala lakum mim buyootikum sakananw wa ja'ala lakum min juloodil an'aami buyootan tastakhif foonahaa yawma za'nikum wa yawma iqaamatikum wa min aswaafihaa wa awbaarihaa wa ash'aarihaaa asaasanw wa mataa'an ilaa heen )

80. And Allah has placed houses (173) for your habitation, and made houses from the skin of the cattle so that it is light for you when you travel and light for you when you camp out, and from their wool and fur and hair some household (174) goods and the things of use for a time (175).
