The summary/theme of the surah An-Nur

In response to the slander against Sayyidah Aisha, this Surah was revealed to strengthen the moral fiber of the Muslim community. A number of laws and guidance are given to reform the Muslim community: Rape, adultery, and fornication, all of which were already declared social crimes in Surah Al-Ahzab.

Lesson learned from surah An-Nur

  1. Don’t make unfounded accusations.  
  2. When you hear of slander or a false accusation, say: سبْحَانَكَ هَذَا بُهْتَانٌ عَظِيْم  
  3. Don’t spread rumours.  
  4. Don’t follow the footsteps of Shayṭān.  
  5. Have a big heart and forgive those who have wronged you; Allāh will forgive you in return.  
  6. Learn the rules of seeking permission before entering a place; be it a house or a room.  
  7. Men should lower their gazes and safeguard their private parts.  
  8. Women should lower their gazes and safeguard their private parts.  
  9. Learn the rules of ḥijāb and implement them.  
  10. Allāh created every living thing from water.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

۞يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَتَّبِعُواْ خُطُوَٰتِ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِۚ وَمَن يَتَّبِعۡ خُطُوَٰتِ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡفَحۡشَآءِ وَٱلۡمُنكَرِۚ وَلَوۡلَا فَضۡلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيۡكُمۡ وَرَحۡمَتُهُۥ مَا زَكَىٰ مِنكُم مِّنۡ أَحَدٍ أَبَدٗا وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُزَكِّي مَن يَشَآءُۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٞ
 Transliteration:( Yaaa aiyuhal lazeena aamanoo laa tattabi'oo khutuwaatish Shaitaan; wa many-yattabi' khutuwaatish Shaitaani fa innahoo yaamuru bilfahshaaa'i walmunkar; wa law laa fadlul laahi 'alaikum wa rahmatuhoo maa zakaa minkum min ahadin abadanw wa laakinnal laaha yuzakkee many-yashaaa'; wallaahu Samee'un 'Aleem )

21. O believers; follow not the footsteps of the devil (37) (Satan). And whoever follows the footsteps of the devil (Satan) then he will indeed tell you only indecency and evil( 38) things. And if there had not been the grace of Allah and his mercy upon you, no one of you could have ever been cleansed, yes Allah cleanses (39) whosoever He likes. And Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

وَلَا يَأۡتَلِ أُوْلُواْ ٱلۡفَضۡلِ مِنكُمۡ وَٱلسَّعَةِ أَن يُؤۡتُوٓاْ أُوْلِي ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَٱلۡمَسَٰكِينَ وَٱلۡمُهَٰجِرِينَ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَلۡيَعۡفُواْ وَلۡيَصۡفَحُوٓاْۗ أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَن يَغۡفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٌ
 Transliteration:( Wa laa yaatali ulul fadli minkum wassa'ati ai yu'tooo ulil qurbaa walmasaakeena walmuhaajireena fee sabeelillaahi walya'foo walyasfahoo; alaa tuhibboona ai yaghfiral laahu lakum; wal laahu Ghafoorur Raheem )

22. And swear not those among you who are men of excellence (40) and of means (41) against to the kinsmen and to the needy and to the emigrants in the way of Allah, and let them forgive and overlook. Do you not love that Allah should forgive (42) you? And Allah is forgiving, Merciful. (43)

 Transliteration:( Innal lazeena yarmoonal muhsanaatil ghaafilaatil mu'minaati lu'inoo fid dunyaa wal Aakhirati wa lahum 'azaabun 'azeem )

23. Undoubtedly, those who malign, unaware chaste believing women, are cursed in the world and the hereafter. And for them is the mighty torment. (44).

24. On the day when their tongues (45) and their hands and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do.

25. On the day Allah will give them true (46) Punishment in full, and they will know that Allah alone is the manifest truth.

 Transliteration:( Al khabeesaatu lil khabeeseena wal khabeesoona lil khabeesaati wat taiyibaatu lit taiyibeena wat taiyiboona lit taiyibaat; ulaaa'ika mubarra'oona mimma yaqooloona lahum maghfiratunw wa rizqun kareem (section 3) )

26. Dirty women are for dirty men and dirty men for dirty women and clean women are for clean men and clean men for clean women (47): they are free from what they are saying (48) for them is forgiveness and honorable (49) provision.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَدۡخُلُواْ بُيُوتًا غَيۡرَ بُيُوتِكُمۡ حَتَّىٰ تَسۡتَأۡنِسُواْ وَتُسَلِّمُواْ عَلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهَاۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ
 Transliteration:( Yaaa aiyuhal lazeena aamanoo laa tadkhuloo buyootan ghaira buyootikum hatta tastaanisoo wa tusallimoo 'alaa ahlihaa; zaalikum khairul lakum la'allakum tazakkaroon )

27. O believers enter not houses other than your own, until you take permission (50) and salute the residents thereof. This is better for you, haply you may be heedful. (51)

28. But if you find not anyone (52) therein, then also enter (53) them not without the permission of the owners; and if you are told to go back(54), then go back, this is cleaner to you, and Allah knows your deeds. Who would grant you permission to enter?

 Transliteration:( Qul lilmu' mineena yaghuuddoo min absaarihim wa yahfazoo furoojahum; zaalika azkaa lahum; innallaaha khabeerum bimaa yasna'oon )

30. Order the Muslim men to lower (58) their sights a little and to guard their private (59) parts. This is cleaner (60) for them, undoubtedly, Allah is Aware of their deeds
