The summary /theme of the Surah At-Tawbah:

Tawbah, which means repentance, is the 9th surah of the Quran with 129 verses revealed in Medina. It is also called Bara'at, meaning repudiation, because the very first word announces the Prophet's (S) repudiation of those who do not believe.

Lesson learned from Surah At-Tawbah:

  1. Honour your treaties.
  2. Populating masjids is a sign of Īmān
  3. If close family members prefer disbelief over Īmān, relationships with them shouldn’t be deep-rooted.[1]
  4. We have been warned to await severe punishment if there is anything that is more beloved to us than Allāh, His Messenger ï·º and striving in their path.
  5. Numbers don’t matter to Allāh; it’s all about quality.
  6. The enemies of Islām will continue trying to extinguish the Light of Allāh, but Allāh insists that His Light will remain luminous, despite their dislike.
  7. The punishment for those who hoard wealth and don’t give Zakāh is severe. Their bodies shall be branded with their wealth in Jahannam.
  8. Hypocrites will take oaths upon oaths to prove their innocence, but they will never stick to them.
  9. Mocking Allāh and His Messenger ï·º is an act of disbelief.
  10. á¹¢adaqah is a means of purity [of wealth and soul].
  11. Don’t ask for the forgiveness of a person who has obviously died in disbelief.
  12. Keep the company of the pious.
  13. There is immense reward in striving in the Path of Allāh.
  14. Seeking knowledge and teaching the DÄ«n is extremely important. Even if there is a mass call to arms, a group is to stay behind and seek knowledge, to teach those that go out when they return.
  15. The Prophet ï·º was very caring towards the Muslims. He would be grieved upon everything that caused the Muslims difficulty, whilst always wishing well for them and showing immense love and mercy towards them.

111. Surely Allah has purchased (309), from the believers their lives and their properties for this in return, that for them is Paradise (310), as they fight in the way of Allah. Then they kill and are killed. There is true promise as His generous responsibility in the Tauraat and the Injeel and the Quran (311), And who is true to his word than Allah? Rejoice (312), then in your bargain, which you have done with Him. And it is this which is the greatest triumph (313).

112. They are those who repent (314), who worship, who praise, who observe fasting, who bow, who prostrate, who enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil and who keep the limits (315), of Allah. And let this be a glad tiding for the believers.

114. And Ebrahim asking for forgiveness for his father was not but an account of a promise (319), he had made to him (320). But when it was made clear to him that he is an enemy (321), of Allah, he disassociates (322). himself from him. No doubt, Ebrahim was most tenderhearted, clement (323),

Transliteration:( Laqat taabal laahu 'alan nabiyyi wal Muhaajireena wal Ansaaril lazeenat taba'oohu fee saa'atil 'usrati min ba'di maa kaada yazeeghu quloobu fariqin minhum thumma taaba 'alaihim; innahoo bihim Ra'oofur Raheem )

117. No doubt, blessings of Allah are conferred on the Prophet and those emigrants and helpers who sided with him (328), in the hour of hardship, after it that the hearts of some of them were nearly to be swerved (329), aside. Then He turned (330), towards them with blessings. Undoubtedly, to them He is Most Kind, Merciful (331),

Transliteration:( Wa 'alas salaasatil lazeena khullifoo hattaaa izaa daaqat 'alaihimul ardu bimaa rahubat wa daaqat 'alaihim anfusuhum wa zannnooo al laa malja-a minal laahi illaaa ilaihi summa taaba 'alaihim liyatooboo; innal laaha Huwat Tawwaabur Raheem )

118. And to the three who were left behind (332), so much so that the earth, being so vast, became strait (333), to them and they became tired of their own lives (334), and they believed that there is no refuge from Allah, except Him. Then He turned to them to forgive, that they might remain repenting. Surely, it is Allah Who is Relenting, the Most Merciful.

It was not proper for the inhabitants of Madina (336), and those around them (337), to remain sitting behind (338), the Messenger of Allah, nor that they should consider their own lives more dearer (339), than his life. This is so because whatever they face as thirst or distress or hunger (340), in the way of Allah or where they take a step on a place which enrages (341), the infidels for all these things (342), a good deed is written (343). for them. Surely, Allah wastes not the reward of the doers of good (344).

Known as The Immunity, Surah At-Tawba is the 9th (chapter) of The Glorious Quran. It has 129 ayat (verses) and was revealed in Medina after the Prophet migrated to Medina. This surah consists of two juz/para. Verses 1 through 92 are in the 10th juz and verses 93 to 129 are in the 11th juz.

This sûrah follows on from the previous one, as it begins by calling an end to the numerous peace treaties broken by the pagans. The believers are encouraged to join the Prophet ( ï·º ) in marching to Tabûk for battle during the summer of 9 A.H./631 C.E., and hypocrites – who make spurious excuses – are uncovered and refuted. Muslims are brought back to remembrance of Allāh's protection at the Battle of Ḥunain, when their defeat changed into a successful victory, in addition to how He shielded His Messenger ( ï·º ) during his journey to Medina. Through this sûrah, Allāh's tolerance for repentance is continually relayed; hence its title.
