The theme/ Summary of the Surah Al-Ḥajj: 

Many verses in this Surah are about the Resurrection and its logical reasoning. A considerable part of this Holy Surah discusses the struggles against idolaters and polytheists, as well as warnings against those who ignore the events of the Hereafter, and so on.

Lesson learned from Surah Al-Ḥajj

  1. The Day of Qiyāmah will be full of horrors.  
  2. The blessings of Allāh are so many, we don’t even realize some to be actually blessings.  
  3. Every one of Allāh’s creations is subservient to Him, except the human.  
  4. Whoever revers the symbols of Allāh does so out of the Allāh-consciousness within his heart.[1]  
  5. Shayṭān tried to contaminate the revelation that each prophet received, but Allāh protected them all from it. He will therefore try his utmost to deceive man.  
  6. Those who are taken as gods other than Allāh cannot even create anything that equals a fly, let alone match Him in greater feats.  
  7. According to some scholars, Ibrāhīm عليه السلام was the first to give us the name ‘Muslims’.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

ٱلَّذِينَ إِن مَّكَّنَّـٰهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُاْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَمَرُواْ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَنَهَوۡاْ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنكَرِۗ وَلِلَّهِ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡأُمُورِ

Transliteration:( Allazeena im makkan naahum fil ardi aqaamus Salaata wa aatawuz Zakaata wa amaroo bilma'roofi wa nahaw 'anil munkar; wa lillaahi 'aaqibatul umoor )

41. Those, if We give them control (94) in the land they, would establish (95) prayer and pay the zakat (poor-due) and command good and forbid (96) evil. And for Allah is the end of all affairs. (97)

وَإِن يُكَذِّبُوكَ فَقَدۡ كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ وَعَادٞ وَثَمُودُ

Transliteration:( Wa iny yukazzibooka faqad kazzabat qablahum qawmu Noohinw wa Aadunw wa Samood )

42. And if they belie you, then no doubt, before them the people on Nuh and Aad and Thamud have already belied.

وَقَوۡمُ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ وَقَوۡمُ لُوطٖ

Transliteration:( Wa qawmu Ibraaheema wa qawmu Loot )

43. And the people of Ibrahim and the people of Lut.

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ مَدۡيَنَۖ وَكُذِّبَ مُوسَىٰۖ فَأَمۡلَيۡتُ لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ ثُمَّ أَخَذۡتُهُمۡۖ فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ

Transliteration:( Wa as haabu Madyana wa kuzziba Moosaa fa amlaitu lilkaafireena summa akhaztuhum fakaifa kaana nakeer )

44. And the dwellers of Madyan (98) and Musa too was belied, (99) then I let loose the infidels, then I seized them, so how was My torment.

فَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرۡيَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهَا وَهِيَ ظَالِمَةٞ فَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَىٰ عُرُوشِهَا وَبِئۡرٖ مُّعَطَّلَةٖ وَقَصۡرٖ مَّشِيدٍ

Transliteration:( Faka ayyim min qaryatin ahlaknaahaa wa hiya zaalimatun fahiya khaawiyatun 'alaa 'urooshihaa wa bi'rim mu'at talatinw wa qasrim masheed )

45. And how many towns We destroyed (100) that they were unjust, so now they are fallen down on their roofs, (101) and how many wells are lying neglected, and how many places are deserted.

أَفَلَمۡ يَسِيرُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَتَكُونَ لَهُمۡ قُلُوبٞ يَعۡقِلُونَ بِهَآ أَوۡ ءَاذَانٞ يَسۡمَعُونَ بِهَاۖ فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَعۡمَى ٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرُ وَلَٰكِن تَعۡمَى ٱلۡقُلُوبُ ٱلَّتِي فِي ٱلصُّدُورِ

Transliteration:( Afalam yaseeroo fil ardi fatakoona lahum quloobuny ya'qiloona bihaaa aw aazaanuny yasma'oona bihaa fa innahaa laa ta'mal absaaru wa laakin ta'mal quloobul latee fissudoor )

46. Have they not traveled in the land (102) that they should have hearts with which to understand or ears with which to hear? (103) Certainly it is not the eyes that become blind but the hearts (104) which are in the breasts.

وَيَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَكَ بِٱلۡعَذَابِ وَلَن يُخۡلِفَ ٱللَّهُ وَعۡدَهُۥۚ وَإِنَّ يَوۡمًا عِندَ رَبِّكَ كَأَلۡفِ سَنَةٖ مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ

Transliteration:( Wa yasta'jiloonaka bil'azaabi wa lany yukhlifal laahu wa'dah; wa inna yawman 'inda Rabbika ka'alfi sanatim mimmaa ta'uddoon )

47. And they ask you to hasten the torment, and Allah shall never fail in His promise (105), and undoubtedly. there is with your Lord such a day like a thousand years in your reckoning (106).

وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرۡيَةٍ أَمۡلَيۡتُ لَهَا وَهِيَ ظَالِمَةٞ ثُمَّ أَخَذۡتُهَا وَإِلَيَّ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ

Transliteration:( Wa ka ayyim min qaryatin amlaitu lahaa wa hiya zaalimatun summa akhaztuhaa wa ilaiyal maseer (section 6) )

48. And how many towns that we let them loose that they were unjust (107), then I seized (108) them and to Me is the return.

قُلۡ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ لَكُمۡ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٞ

Transliteration:( Qul yaaa ayyuhan naasu innamaaa ana lakum nazeerum mubeen )

49. Say you, ‘O mankind; I am but a clear warner (109) to you’.

فَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُم مَّغۡفِرَةٞ وَرِزۡقٞ كَرِيمٞ

Transliteration:( Fallazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati lahum maghfiratunw wa rizqun kareem )

50. Then those who believed and did good works for them. Is forgiveness and an honourable (110) provision.
