📖 Commentary of Verse 29 (Surah An-Nazi’at)

"And He made its night dark and its morning bright." [13]

✅ Signs of Divine Power in Night and Day [13]

This verse points to the orderly system of night and day as a sign of Allah’s wisdom and mercy:

  • Night from the Heavens:
Though night is a shadow caused by the earth, it originates due to the sun — which resides in the heaven. Hence, night is also a heavenly gift.

  • Distant Yet Beneficial:
The sun, moon, and sky are far, yet they benefit us deeply — just as the Prophets and Saints, though distant or departed, continue to guide and benefit.

  • Day and Night as Symbols:
The rising sun brings light, while its setting brings night — both essential. Similarly, Prophets and Saints benefit the world during their lives and even after passing.

  • The Eternal Light of Prophethood:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is like the radiant sun in the heaven of Prophethood — a light that has never set, nor will ever set.

Ala-Maududi

(79:29) and covered its night with darkness and brought forth from it its day;[15]

15. The night and the day have been attributed to the heaven, for the night falls when the sun of the heavens sets and the day dawns when it rises. The word cover has been used for the night in the sense that after the sun has set the darkness of the night so spreads over the earth as though it has covered it from above by a curtain.

(29) And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.[1845]

[1845]- i.e., created the day from within the surrounding darkness.
