📖 Commentary of Surah Hud – Verse 11

"Except for those who are patient [24] and do righteous deeds. For them is forgiveness and a great reward."

✅ [24] The Importance of Patience

This verse highlights the importance of patience in both times of comfort and hardship. It refers to those who control themselves from pride during times of ease and from fear during times of difficulty. These are the individuals who remain steadfast and patient in the service and obedience of Allah Almighty. In essence, patience must be exercised in all conditions, whether one is experiencing ease or facing challenges. For such individuals, forgiveness and a great reward await them.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Hud verse 11 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Hud ayat 9 which provides the complete commentary from verse 9 through 11.

(11:11) except those who are patient[11] and act righteously. Such shall have Allah’s forgiveness and a great reward.[12]

Ala-Maududi

(11:11) except those who are patient[11] and act righteously. Such shall have Allah’s forgiveness and a great reward.[12]

11. Here sabr (fortitude) also implies another meaning, that is, steadfastness, the antonym of shallowness etc. that has been mentioned in the preceding verse. Those “Who are steadfast” remain fine and unwavering in their purpose in spite of the vicissitudes of life. They are not influenced by the changes of circumstances but stick to the right reasonable and correct attitudes they have adopted. They do not give themselves airs nor become intoxicated nor over jubilant and boastful if they win power, prosperity and name. On the contrary, they are neither subdued nor depressed if they are visited by adversity. In short, they come out successful in their trial by Allah, whether it be in the shape of favor or adversity and remain steadfast in both the cases.

12. This is the favor that Allah shows to such people; He forgives their shortcomings and gives them rich rewards for their good deeds.

(11) Except for those who are patient and do righteous deeds; those will have forgiveness and great reward.
