📖 Commentary of Surah Hud – Verse 66

"Then when Our Command came, We saved Saleh and those who believed with him by Our mercy [140], and from the humiliation of that day. No doubt, your Lord is the All-Mighty, the All-Powerful."

✅ [140] Companionship in Faith
The term "company" in this verse refers to the companionship in faith rather than the physical companionship in time. Hazrat Saleh (peace be upon him) had already embraced faith before his followers, so his faith preceded that of his companions. Allah’s mercy was extended to those who had believed and followed him, highlighting that faith is the key to salvation and divine protection. These pious people were saved before the punishment struck the disbelievers. This shows that Allah’s mercy protects the believers first, and punishment follows only for those who reject the message.

Ala-Maududi

(11:66) Then, when Our command came to pass, We saved Salih and those who shared his faith through Our special mercy, from the disgrace of that day.[74] Truly Your Lord is All-Strong, All-Mighty.

74. According to the traditions that are current in the Sinai Peninsula, Allah delivered them from the torment and led them there. There is a Mount near Jabal-i-Musa, known by the name of Prophet Salih where, it is said, the Prophet took refuge after the destruction of his people.

(66) So when Our command came, We saved Ṣāliḥ and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us, and [saved them] from the disgrace of that day.[561] Indeed, it is your Lord who is the Powerful, the Exalted in Might.
