Quran Quote  : 

Quran-11:74 Surah Hud English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Falammaa zahaba an Ibraaheemar raw'u wa jaaa'at hul bushraaa yujaadilunaa fee qawmi Loot )

74. Then when the fear(151), of Ibrahim disappeared, and he got glad-tidings, he began to dispute with Us about the people of Lut (152),

151. His danger disappeared that they are not eating 

152. This tells us that those who love Allah Almighty are always full of pride towards Him. Though they quarrel with him and show insistence, Allah Almighty loves their persistence. We further learn fighting against those beloved to Allah Almighty is fighting against the Almighty. When Hazrat Ebrahim (On whom be peace) would quarrel with the angels, Allah Almighty said he had quarrelled with Him. It should be remembered that Hazrat Ebrahim (On whom be peace) on this occasion did not intercede for the people of

Hazrat Lut (On whom be peace), but incidentally tried for the delay in the coming of  Divine punishment.

74. Then when the fear had gone away from (the mind of) Ibrahim, and the glad tidings had reached him, he began to plead with Us (Our messengers) for the people of Lut. 75. Verily, Ibrahim was, without doubt, forbearing, used to invoke Allah with humility, and was repentant. 76. “O Ibrahim! Forsake this. Indeed, the commandment of your Lord has gone forth. Verily, there will come a torment for them which cannot be turned back.”


The Dispute of Ibrahim over the People of Lut

Allah, the Exalted, informs of what happened after the fright of Ibrahim left him and he felt no more fear of the angels when they refused to eat. After this, they gave him the glad tidings of the birth of a son and the destruction of the people of Lut. When they told him of this, he spoke to them as Sa`id bin Jubayr narrated concerning this verse. Sa`id said: When Jibril and the other angels who were with him came to Ibrahim, they said,

﴿إِنَّا مُهْلِكُو أَهْلِ هَـذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ﴾

(Verily, we are going to destroy the people of this town.) Ibrahim said to them, “Will you destroy a town that has three hundred believers in it” They said, “No.” He then said, “Will you destroy a town that has two hundred believers in it” They said, “No.” He said, “Will you destroy a town that has forty believers in it” They said, “No.” He then said, “Thirty” They still replied, “No.” This continued until he said, “Five” They said, “No.” Then he said, “What do you think if there is one Muslim man in the town, would you destroy it” They said, “No.” With this, Ibrahim said,

﴿إِنَّ فِيهَا لُوطاً قَالُواْ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن فِيهَا لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلاَّ امْرَأَتَهُ﴾

(But there is Lut in it. They said: “We know better who is there. We will verily, save him and his family except his wife.”) Therefore, Ibrahim remained silent and his soul was at rest. Concerning Allah’s statement,

﴿إِنَّ إِبْرَهِيمَ لَحَلِيمٌ أَوَّاهٌ مُّنِيبٌ ﴾

(Verily, Ibrahim was, without doubt, forbearing, used to invoke Alllah with humility, and was repentant (to Allah).) ï´¿11:75ï´¾ This is a commendation for Ibrahim because of these beautiful characteristics. Then Allah says,

﴿يإِبْرَهِيمُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَـذَآ إِنَّهُ قَدْ جَآءَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ﴾

(O Ibrahim! Forsake this. Indeed, the commandment of your Lord has gone forth.) This means the decree was settled concerning them and the Word was already given that they should be destroyed. The evil torment was coming to them, that cannot be averted from wicked people.

(11:74) Thus when fear had left Abraham and the good news had been conveyed to him, he began to dispute with Us concerning the people of Lot.[83]

83. “He began to argue with Us” is the expression of affection and endearment which manifests the nature of close relationship of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) with his Lord. This helps depict the picture of the argument that the servant had with his Lord for pleading the case of the people of Lot. He pleaded persistently: Lord, avert the coming scourge from the people of Lot. The Lord replied: These people have become so degraded that no good was left in them and their crimes have become so heinous that they deserve no leniency at all. But the servant still persisted: Lord, give them more respite, even if a little good yet remains in them; maybe it should bear some fruit. This dispute has been recorded in the Bible rather in detail, but the concise mention in the Quran is more meaningful. (For comparison please refer to Genesis 18: 23-32).
