Quran Quote  : 

Quran-11:91 Surah Hud English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Qaaloo yaa Shu'aibu maa nafqahu kaseeram mimmaa taqoolu wa innaa lanaraaka feenaa da'eefanw wa law laa rahtuka larajamnaaka wa maaa anta 'alainaa bi'azeez )

91. They said, O Shoaib, we do not understand (185), most of your talks; and no doubt, we see you weak (186), among us. And if there would not have been your tribe, (187), we would have stoned you. And there is no respect for you in our eyes (188)

185. This tells us the words and conversation of a Prophet can be understood through the intelligence of faith, ordinary intelligence is not sufficient for it. In fact, just to look at them you require the gaze of faith.

186. From this we understand that to reject the powers of Prophets and Saints and to regard them as weak is the work of infidels. Allah Almighty has granted them such powers that no other power can work against them. 

187. This means those of your kith and kin who are in the fold of our religion would stand to take up arms against us when they would see us causing harm to you. For this reason we would not say anything to you. An example of this was the leniency of the infidels of Makkah towards the Holy Prophet because of the position of Abu Talib, and due to this, were scared to cause injury to his nephew. 

188. This tells us that what respect will one now show to a Prophet, who is disgraced himself. This is the very utterance of the progeny of Ismail in the present time. The source of all this is nonsensical talking of the people of Hazrat Shuaib (On whom be peace).

 

Ibn-Kathir

91. They said: “O Shu`ayb! We do not understand much of what you say, and we see you weak among us. Were it not for your family, you would have been stoned, and you are not powerful against us.” 92. He said: “O my people! Is then my family of more weight with you than Allah And you have cast Him away behind your backs. Verily, my Lord is surrounding all that you do.”


The Response of Shu`ayb’s People

They said,

﴿يشُعَيْبُ مَا نَفْقَهُ﴾

(O Shu`ayb! We do not understand) This means that we do not comprehend.

﴿كَثِيراً﴾

(much) `most of what you say’. Ath-Thawri said, “He (Shu`ayb) was called the orator of the Prophets.” As-Suddi said,

﴿وَإِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِينَا ضَعِيفًا﴾

(and we see you weak among us.) “They meant, `You are only one person.”’ Abu Rawq said, “They meant, `You are despised, because your tribe is not upon your religion.”’

﴿وَلَوْلاَ رَهْطُكَ لَرَجَمْنَـكَ﴾

(Were it not for your family, you would have been stoned,) This means, your people. Were it not for their powerful position over the people of Madyan, they would have stoned him to death. Some said that this means with rocks. It has also been said that this means that they would have cursed and insulted him verbally.

﴿وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْنَا بِعَزِيزٍ﴾

(and you are not powerful against us.) This means, “You have no position of power over us.”

Shu`ayb’s Refutation of His People

﴿قَالَ يقَوْمِ أَرَهْطِى أَعَزُّ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ﴾

(He said: “O my people! Is then my family of more weight with you than Allah”)( He says: You would leave me alone out of respect for my people but not out of respect for the greatness of the Lord, the Most Blessed and Exalted Does not your awe of Allah prevent you from harming His Prophet Indeed you have placed the fear of Allah,

﴿وَرَآءَكُمْ ظِهْرِيّاً﴾

(behind your backs.) This means that you have thrown it behind you. You do not obey it, nor do you respect it.

﴿إِنَّ رَبِّى بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ﴾

(Verily, my Lord is surrounding all that you do.) This means that He knows all of your actions and He will reward you according to them.

(11:91) They said: ‘O Shu’ayb! We do not understand much of what you say.[102] Indeed we see you weak in our midst. Were it not for your kinsmen, we would surely have stoned you for you have no strength to overpower us.[103]

102. They did not understand what Prophet Shuaib (peace be upon him) said to them, not because he talked to them in some foreign language or because the theme was too difficult or complicated for them. For he talked to them in their own language and his theme was simple and clear. As a matter of fact, they did not understand because they would not: Their crooked thinking left neither any desire nor any aptitude for understanding his talk. And this is true of all those people who become such slaves of their prejudices and lusts as render them incapable of accepting anything against their preconceived notions. For they are neither inclined to listen to such things nor understand them as though these things were not for them nor were they for them.

103. While studying this part of the story of Prophet Shuaib (peace be upon him), it should be kept in view that similar conditions were prevalent at Makkah at the time of the revelation of this story. The Quraish were as blood thirsty to kill the Prophet (peace be upon him) as were the people of Madian to take the life of Prophet Shuaib (peace be upon him). Just as the people of Prophet Shuaib (peace be upon him) desisted from this evil design because they were afraid of his family, likewise the Quraish were afraid of Bani Hashim and refrained from executing their evil designs. So this story was being related to warn the Quraish that they should learn a lesson from the answer of Prophet Shuaib (peace be upon him) (Surah Hud, Ayat 92-93), as if to say: O people of Quraish, this same is the answer to you from Muhammad (peace be upon him).
