Quran-11:89 Surah Hud English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Wa yaa qawmi laa yajri mannakum shiqaaqeee ai yuseebakum mislu maaa asaaba qawma Noohin aw qawma Hoodin aw qawma Saalih; wa maa qawmu Lootim minkum biba'eed )

89. And O my people! Let not your opposition to me make you earn that which befell the people of Nuh, or the people of Hud or the people of Saleh. And the people of Lut are not far away from you (183).

Surah Hud Ayat 89 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

183. The destruction and devastation of the people of Hazrat Lut (On whom be peace) in comparison is very close to that of the people of Nooh and the people of Hud. If there was not the object of it, then the destruction of the people of Lut had also taken place thousands of years ago, because Hazrat Lut (On whom be peace) was the contemporary of Hazrat Ebrahim (On whom be peace) while Hazrat Shuaib (On whom be peace) was a contemporary of Hazrat Moosa (On be peace).

Ibn-Kathir

89. “And O my people! Let not my Shiqaq cause you to suffer the fate similar to that of the people of Nuh or of Hud or of Salih, and the people of Lut are not far off from you!” 90. “And ask forgiveness of your Lord and turn unto Him in repentance. Verily, my Lord is Most Merciful, Most Loving.”) He (Shu`ayb) said to them,

(And O my people! Let not my Shiqaq cause you) This means, “Do not let your hatred and enmity of me cause you to persist in your corruption and disbelief. If you continue this way, you will suffer the same vengeance and torment that overcame Nuh’s people, Hud’s people, Salih’s people and Lut’s people.” Qatadah said,

(And O my people! Let not my Shiqaq cause you) “He is saying, `Do not be influenced by your differing with me.”’ As-Suddi said, “This means your enmity of me should not lead you to continue in misguidance and disbelief, or else you will be afflicted by what afflicted them.” Concerning His statement,

(and the people of Lut are not far off from you!) It has been said that this refers to the period of time. Qatadah said, “This means that they were only destroyed before you yesterday.” It has also been said that it refers to place. Actually, the verse carries both meanings.

(And ask forgiveness of your Lord) from the previous sins.

(and turn unto Him in repentance.) In whatever evil actions you may encounter in the future. Concerning his statement,

(Verily, my Lord is Most Merciful, Most Loving.) to those who repent.

(11:89) My people! Let not your opposition to me lead you to guilt that would bring upon you the chastisement that struck earlier the people of Noah, and the people of Hud, and the people of Salih. And the land of the people of Lot is not far from you![100]

Ala-Maududi

(11:89) My people! Let not your opposition to me lead you to guilt that would bring upon you the chastisement that struck earlier the people of Noah, and the people of Hud, and the people of Salih. And the land of the people of Lot is not far from you![100]

100. That is, your land is not far from the land of the people of Lot, which has been totally destroyed. It is quite near and what happened did not take place long ago. here
