Transliteration:( Wa ilaa 'aadin akhaahum Hoodaa; qaala yaa qawmi' budul laaha maa lakum min ilaahin ghairuhooo in antum illaa muftaroon )
"And to 'Aad [was sent] their brother Hud [107]. He said, 'O my people, worship Allah [108]. You have no deity other than Him. You are but fabricators.'"
The term "brother" here refers to the genealogical relation between Hazrat Hud (peace be upon him) and the people of 'Aad. He was from among them, and thus, the word "brother" is used in this familial sense. It does not imply that the believers are permitted to refer to Hazrat Hud (peace be upon him) as a brother in the spiritual sense, as he was specifically sent to guide them as a Prophet.
The command to worship Allah in this verse calls the people to abandon infidelity and embrace faith. It stresses that worship of Allah Almighty is essential and that there is no deity other than Him. The phrase could also be interpreted as a call to not just accept faith but also to worship Allah after doing so. This is similar to instructing someone who lacks Wudu to first perform Wudu before offering Salaah. Therefore, it is clear that polytheists are indeed required to worship Allah, and this verse does not absolve them from this obligation.
50. And to the `Ad (people We sent) their brother Hud. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other god but Him. Certainly, you do nothing but invent lies! 51. “O my people I ask of you no reward for it (the Message). My reward is only from Him Who created me. Will you not then understand” 52. “And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as criminals.”
Allah, the Exalted, says,
(And) This is an introductory to what is implied: “Verily, We sent.”
(to the `Ad (people) their brother Hud.) Hud came to them commanding them to worship Allah alone, without any associates. He forbade them from worshipping the idols which they made up, inventing names as gods. He informed them that he did not want any reward from them for his sincere advising and conveying of Allah’s Message. He only sought his reward from Allah, the One Who created him.
(Will you not then understand) Someone has come calling you to what will benefit your situation in this life and the Hereafter without asking for any wage (from them). Then he commanded them to seek the forgiveness of the One Who is capable of expiating previous sins. He also commanded them to repent for that which they may do in the future. Whoever has these characteristics, Allah will make his sustenance easy for him, grant him ease in his affairs and guard over his situation. For this reason Allah says,
(He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain,)
(11:50) And to ‘Ad We sent their brother Hud.[54] He said: ‘My people! Serve Allah: you have no god save Him. (In attributing partners to Allah) you have merely been fabricating lies.[55]
54. Please keep in view (Surah Al-Aaraf, ayat 65-72) note 51-56.
55. That is, you have forged falsehood about all the deities you worship beside Allah, for in fact they possess no powers and no qualities that might entitle them to Godhead. As they have absolutely nothing in them which might make them the objects of worship and service, you have put in them false hopes that they would fulfill your desires and needs.
