📖 Commentary of Surah Yunus – Verse 106

"And do not invoke besides Allah that which can neither benefit you nor harm you [272]. For if you do so, then you will surely be among the unjust [273]." (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

✅ [272] The Prohibition of False Worship
This verse clearly prohibits worshipping anything besides Allah, particularly those powerless entities that cannot truly benefit or harm. The restriction applies specifically to acts of worship, not general requests for help, as evidenced by other Quranic verses permitting seeking assistance from others (S33:V5). While created things like sticks or stones might cause physical effects, they lack divine power to truly solve problems or answer prayers. The distinction lies in recognizing that ultimate control rests solely with Allah.

✅ [273] Seeking Help Without Shirk
The verse does not condemn seeking worldly means, such as visiting doctors or pursuing justice through courts, provided one understands these as secondary causes under Allah's will. Just as a thirsty person goes to a well or a poor person seeks aid from the wealthy, turning to prophets, saints, or pious individuals as intermediaries for forgiveness is permissible when done with the right intention. The key is acknowledging that all help ultimately comes from Allah alone, avoiding any attribution of divine power to creation. This approach maintains pure monotheism while allowing for necessary worldly interactions.
