📖 Commentary of Surah Yunus – Verse 50

"Say: 'Tell me, if His punishment comes upon you by night or day [144], what is there that the guilty are hastening [145] for?'" (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

[144] The State of Negligence

This verse highlights the negligence of the disbelievers who are so engrossed in their worldly distractions—sleep during the night and commerce during the day—that they are unaware of the impending punishment of Allah. The verse points to how the disbelievers are in a constant state of distraction, neglecting the warning signs and remaining oblivious to the truth of their situation. They remain unaware and unprepared for the consequences of their actions.

[145] The Mockery and Haste of the Disbelievers

The verse also refers to the disbelievers who mock the warnings and stay in their state of negligence, while the believers are deeply concerned, taking efforts to protect themselves from the fears of punishment. The disbelievers, despite being warned, hasten towards their worldly pursuits, unaware of the danger that looms. In contrast, the believers are always focused on saving themselves, constantly striving for guidance and protection from the punishment that the disbelievers dismiss.
