📖 Commentary of Surah Yunus – Verse 52

"Then it will be said to the wrongdoers: 'Taste [148] the everlasting punishment. You will be recompensed only for what you used to earn [149].'" (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

[148] The Eternal Punishment

This verse refers to the Day of Judgment, not the grave. The punishment of the grave is not eternal, but the punishment on the Day of Judgment is everlasting. Therefore, this verse should not be used to argue against the significance of the punishment of the grave.

[149] Accountability for Deeds

The infidels will be punished for both their sins and their failure to perform good deeds, as stated in "used to earn." They will be held accountable for their actions, including their infidelity. However, the minor children of the infidels will not be punished, as the punishment is based on evil deeds or infidelity.
