Quran Quote  :

Quran-10:74 Surah Yunus English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Thumma ba'asnaa min ba'dihee Rusulan ilaa qawmihim fajaaa'oohum bil baiyinaati famaa kaanoo liyu'minoo bimaa kazzaboo bihee min qabl; kazaalika natba'u 'alaa quloobil mu'tadeen )

74. Then after him We sent other Messengers (205), towards their people. They brought to them bright proofs, but they were not to believe what they had already belied before (206). Thus, We seal the hearts of the transgressors (207)

Surah Yunus Ayat 74 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

205. During the time of Hazrat Nooh (on whom be peace) there were only
believing children. All infidels had been destroyed. However, in the children
of these remaining people infidelity and polytheism began to spread
through the misguidance of the devil.
Thus Hazrat Saleh, Hazrat Hud, Hazraat Ebrahim, etc (on them be peace)
were sent at their times. It should be remembered that Hazrat Ebrahim (on
whom be peace) is the seventh Prophet, calculating from Hazrat Adam
(on whom be peace) who was the first, followed by Hazrat Shaith, then
Hazrat Idrees,
then Hazraat Nooh, then Hazrat Saleh, then Hazrat Hud, followed by
Hazrat Ebrahim (on them be peace). After him all Prophets are his progeny
and are called Ebrahimi.
206. By this is meant religious laws and the sayings of the Prophets i.e.
when they rejected one Prophet, then they continued rejecting the other
Prophets, without believing in any one of them.
207. From this we learn if any heart is bereft of the love of a Prophet then
no guidance will ever exercise effect therein. Such a heart is sealed.

Ibn-Kathir

74. Then after him We sent Messengers to their people. They brought them clear proofs, but they would not believe what they had already rejected beforehand. Thus We seal the hearts of the transgressors.

Meaning; Then after Nuh We sent Messengers to their people.

They brought them clear proofs. and evidences of the truth that they came with.

(But they would not believe what they had already rejected beforehand) meaning the nations did not believe what their Messengers brought to them because they already rejected it from the beginning. Allah said:

(And We shall turn their hearts and their eyes away (from guidance).) (6:110) He then said here,

(Thus We seal the hearts of the transgressors.) This means that as Allah has set seals on the hearts of those people, such that they would not believe since they previously rejected faith, He would also set seals on the hearts of the people that are like them, who will come after them. They would not believe until they see the severe torment. This means that Allah destroyed the nations after Nuh. He destroyed the nations that rejected the Messengers and saved those who believed from among them. From the time of Adam to Nuh, people followed Islam. Then they invented the worship of idols. So Allah sent Nuh to them. That is why the believers will say to him on the Day of Resurrection, “You are the first Messenger Allah sent to the people of the earth.” Ibn `Abbas said: “There were ten generations between Adam and Nuh, and all of them were following Islam.” Allah also said:

(And how many generations have We destroyed after Nuh!) (17:17) This was a serious warning to the Arab pagans, who rejected the leader and last of the Messengers and Prophets. If the people before them who rejected their Messengers had received this much punishment, then what did they think will happen to them since they perpetrated even greater sins than others before them

(10:74) Then We sent forth after him other Messengers, each one to his people. They brought to them clear signs, but they were not such as to believe in what they had rejected earlier as false. Thus do We seal the hearts of those who transgress.[71]

71. The transgressors whose hearts are sealed are those obstinate and obdurate people who are so hardened against persuasion that they firmly and perversely adhere to the opinion they have once formed erroneously. As they themselves refuse to listen to counsel and admonition, Allah’s curse falls on them and they are deprived of the ability of ever coming to the right way.
